Few Adjustments

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 11, 2022
Published: Sep. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hague and Sandin get a change of scenery. Leafs get a physical 4th line centre. Vegas get an nhl ready winger and a 2nd.

Colorado gets a boost to their top 9. Leafs shed cap and get a very big and tough 7th dmen or winger. (Most Colorado fans don't see Kerfoot as a good fit and they have mentioned that. I disagree and will make this trade regardless) I think think Colorado going after Rodrigues could work also! Colorado has a lot of solid options to make things work.
Montreal get a guy to play RD for cheap and they can resell him at the deadline for likely quite a bit more than this.
Leafs also sign ZAR.

Leafs get more physical, tougher, stronger and become cap compliant in this AGM.

I like the look of this team a lot more than their team right now.

Thoughts?

Gio can't play the right side. If he could Sandin would already be signed cheap. The Avs trade is horrible for the leafs.

Kerfoot is definitely much more valuable than MacDermid. But at this time of year, I don't see many teams taking on Kerfoots cap hit. Macdermid would give the Leafs a solid depth piece and cap room. Colorado paid a 4th round pick for MacDermid a few years back and has been a nice addition to their team. So look at this like Kerfoot for a 4th but we get a player we need. Kerfoot for a 4th is a supppper steal for Colorado but that's because Dubas waited way to long. He should have dealt a few players before the draft to make the cap room, we all knew he needed.

Also - Fair enough on Gio. I thought I heard he has played there before. I could be mistaken!

Nope. He has in emergencies and it didn't go well. Kerfoot is far more valuable to the leafs than a player we don't need and wouldn't see an nhl game. Kerfoot for a useful prospect or decent pick, sure. Kerfoot for garbage isn't worth it.

Macdermid played 58 games for Colorado last year. granted none in the playoffs. But if he cracks their roster from time to time, he would for the Leafs also. Great piece to have to slot in when needed!

Not sure why COL would take on that cap. If they want a middle 6 player they can sign one in UFA for cheaper

I did mention Rodrigues in my description as a good option for Colorado and that Colorado has a lot of good options. Kerfoot is just one of those decent options that I see. Kerfoot at 3.5m cap is reasonable. He would have gotten 4.5m a year x 4 or so if he were a UFA this year.

actually you do - Price on LTIR and run a 23 person roster and it works. 22 makes it work no problem. 23 person it depends who you send down.

That's been accounted for, Price on LTIR with our current contracts gives us ~$300,000 tops. We're not sending contracts down to fit Holl in when we also want the "unwanted" contracts to gain value through their play this season to move them for improved returns. If we trade for another RD right now we need to move salary at the same time. Hence why Barrie/Hoffman started popping up all over this site for a while.

Kerfoot is way more valuable than MacDermid, but COL just isn’t adding that much salary when it seems pretty clear they want to accrue cap space before making any moves.

Why can Kerfoot only be traded back to his original team.. there are 30 other teams he might like to try

I trade him to many different teams. I just chose Colorado in this AGM. There is a fit there. Calgary, Winnipeg, Minnesota could be potential suitors as well. And then there are the none playoff teams such as Arizona, Chicago, Detroit, Anaheim who may trade for him for very cheap in hopes to resell him more at the deadline. We have seen Yzerman do this before with Leddy. I think Detroit's roster is a lot more full this time around though, so I see them least likely of the teams I listed though.

Kerfoot isn't a fit in Colorado, he's not good enough to play 2nd line centre and he's to expensive to play 3rd line.. which was the reason they traded him to begin with

He cracked the lineup till they got Manson. Leafs have a full RD and two players as good or better than mcdermid in mete and benn.

The other issue is Avs performance bi uses. Meaning you would need to retain on kerfoot.

Kerfoot 50% retained for Kaut. If Sakic doesn't like that kerfoot remains a leaf.

Certainly isn't optimal. The reason I hang on to kerfoot is to play centre if we have a top 6 injury. He always seems to do very well. At this stage who would Colorado get? Kerfoot at 1.75m would be about as good of a fit as I can think of. Unless you're moving Girard out for a centre in a big deal.

Why does Nicolas Hague need a change of scenery? He's been remarkably consistent his first three seasons in the NHL -- 0.3 pts per game in each, and as good defensively as one can expect a young defender to be. LhD Sandin for LhD Hague seems to me to be making a trade just to make a trade. The other half of this proposal -- an actual NHLer for "an NHL ready winger" and a second -- strikes me as overstating Joey Anderson's potential.

The issue is, he's not 1.75, he's 3.5, and I don't see Toronto taking on salary unless murray/samsonov is so bad that they don't make the playoffs, colorado is going to give newhook the reigns and probably drop down rantanen on his wing to give him a skill boost.

Only reason they move Girard at this stage is to add patty kane
