A good low-risk deal for forward depth. I don't see many downside to this.

Out of everywhere, i'm surprised he went to COL. I really expected him to go someplace like NYI.

How bad can it be? Short term, low cap hit, great team. He didn’t cash in, but I figure he will next year.

Smart, low risk play by the Avs. Question is, will he ever get a contract longer than 1-2 years?

Loving the fit and the lineup flexibility this allows.

I'm sure he wanted a long term deal but we can't afford much beyond this year so might as well chance the repeat but with some "hungry" blood

Im a fan of this. If he performs like he did last year its a complete steal, but even if last year was just a fluke career year I still think this is fair value for what he brings

I'm personally not a fan of Rodrigues, but at this value you can't really complain. I think he benefitted greatly from playing with Pittsburghs top guys like Guentzel and Rust in the absence of Geno and Sid, but Colorado has a ton of talent to surround him with as well

You can't go wrong with that
Rodrigues should fit nicely into a third or fourth C role

shocked they got this deal done... Bob Stauffer from Edmonton said he hard that E-Rod had a 2m deal with a team and waiting for other teams to improve their offers...didnt think it was the Avs who had that offer out there. Friedman and co never mentioned them connected to Rodrigues.

Good signing, swiss army knife for the middle 6 is just want they needed

playing style he fits nicely....the man is a zone entry machine. Joining one of the top teams in transition like the Avs. Should be plug and play for him.
I would have hated this if he got a 2 year deal....1 year is perfect bc of just as you said. I think he needs to prove that his production is more sustainable

I posted this in the offseason discussion thread but ill cross post it here too:

Interesting thing I found with Rodrigues - he seemed to have his best analytical seasons when playing the most minutes. 18-19 and 21-22 were by far his highest avg TOI seasons and both of them are his best analytical seasons. I wonder if hes just the kind of player who can play at a high level but only when put in larger roles with better linemates. If thats the case then it fits well with COL since he can take the reigns at 2C and be insulated with Lehkonen and Rantanen as strong wingers

Even if he regresses to his career averages at about 27 points a season, this will still be a good contract.

He's 29 and he's had 1 good offensive NHL season (last season), so I'm not surprised he only got a 1-year deal. But, he should be a solid bottom six addition to an elite offensive team in COL. I just wouldn't expect him to reach 43 points again with limited O-zone starts. He had a bigger role in PIT last season, especially with their injuries. He should be a solid 15/15 player. B+ signing, imo.

I would've thought that Newhook or Compher had the inside track to that 2C spot. I guess you could slot ER there instead.

This is interesting. Others have also pointed out that Rodrigues needs to be in a top-6 role to be effective. Colorado must know that, so I wonder if they are considering him for that open 2C slot. I suspect they’re still hoping that Newhook can do it, but if it turns out that he’s not up for it yet, Rodrigues could be their Plan B. (I think they need Compher to stay on the third line.) They’re not paying him a 2C salary, so if he doesn’t end up on the second line it’s still not a bad investment.

This would be similar to Carolina, where I think they’ve been anticipating Kotkaniemi being the new 2C, but they brought in Paul Stastny on a cheap one-year deal just in case.
