Not sure what the Rangers are looking for but that's not it. They can get Kaut on waivers or have to expose him to waivers. LHD isn't really a problem and Leivermann may not sign. I'd guess they'd let him play in Sweden, Lundqvist and Sandin would be a pretty good pairing there, until he wants to come back before taking that deal.

Just to expand on what others have said, the Rangers already have Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov competing for top-9 spots on RW (all of whom are younger) so Kaut doesn’t provide value for NY. He just doesn’t make sense positionally.

Lundqvist supposedly wanted more PT in NY, he definitely isn’t getting that in COL.
