I'd take him if we move Mayfield for significant value.

Agreed, he's not much of a downgrade from Mayfield, and since Mayfield can be sent out fully retained for $720Kish, we could probably get back a strong asset for him. If we could turn Mayfield & a 6th into Holl, a 2nd, and a prospect? Slam dunk to me.

No one is paying the Islanders a 2nd and a prospect for Mayfield LOL

Late 2nd and a B prospect is certainly possible.

You're crazy if you don't think we'll at least get a 2nd for Mayfield if he's moved. But talking to another delusional Leafs fan isn't new to me.

I mean the Josh Manson trade is right there to look at as an obvious comp: Manson was 30 at the time of the trade, Mayfield turns 30 a month from now. Manson is a bigger, physical RHD; so is Mayfield. Manson was a pending UFA last year, Mayfield is this year. The only differences are: Manson with retention still cost $600K more than Mayfield's cap hit without retention; Mayfield averaged more ice time than Manson did with the Ducks last year, and Mayfield's possession numbers were better.

Manson got back a 2nd and Drew Helleson from the Avs at the deadline. It's not inconceivable that Scott Mayfield, retained down to $722K, would get back *at least* the same type of package.

Paper thin lineup, that 4th line could fail pretty badly and you have three pretty ancient defensemen (Muzzin is a bad bet to play a whole season and his offense has dried up, Giordano and Benn are almost 80 yrs old between the two) without a backup plan, an NHL ready 7th dman or cap space.

Having so many older and slow defensemen, and no quality 7th doesn;t bode well in front of two struggling goalies who have been thrown away by their respective former teams.

Moving Holl and not resigning Sandin makes a real weakness, even more exposed. Leafs almost have to keep one of those 2 defenders and move Kerfoot to get under the cap.

Holl is significantly worse than Mayfield. I think Lambert wants to have all three pairs play similar minutes. Mayfield is a top four defenseman playing in a third pair role. It’s a luxury the isles have. And they probably won’t give it up cause their forward core is so mid lol.

I think mayfield is better but manson seemed to have brand power that even nhl GM's seem to fall for.

Holl gets slagged on a bit around here because there's not a single Leafs ACGM that doesn't have him getting dumped out for whatever they can get back for him. But GSVA has him pegged as pretty similar to Mayfield's numbers (I'll concede that those offensive numbers come wayyyyy the hell down with a move from the Leafs to the Isles, but still! he's not that bad!)

Mayfield's gone after this year anyway, so to me, I don't hate making the slight downgrade to Holl and turning that 6th rounder into a 2nd and a prospect (or whatever you get for Mayfield). Probably too much razzle dazzle in that move for Uncle Lou, but there's some merit to it in my eyes.

I’ll be blunt. I’m not even sure I’d prefer Holl to Hutton at this point. Nobody wants to give a 26 or 27 year old UDFA nhl minutes, but Hutton was pretty good last year. Imo I’d they move mayfield he’s the next guy up anyway.

In all honesty (more of a reply to your first post), I don't think they should be running all 3 pairs equally this year. LD3 is going to be one of Robin Salo (untested), Sebastian Aho (we can all pretty much agree he's not good), or Dennis Cholowski(on his 4th! team since the beginning of the 2020 season). Beyond that, you've devoted a ton of assets to upgrading your 2nd pair - you traded your 1st round pick for Romanov and then gave him and Dobson a combined $6.5M for the next 3 seasons. If I'm running this team, I'm running my top pair(P+P) 22-23 minutes a night, I'm running my 2nd pair of 22 year olds for 20-21 minutes a night, and giving my third pair the remaining 16-18 minutes. Fine with Mayfield sticking it out as RD3 in that situation, but also find giving those minutes to Holl or Hutton or any other guy whose last name does or doesn't start with an H, and turning Mayfield into some nice future assets while still fielding a potential contender.

I agree for the most part. But let’s not forget something here. Pulock has an 8 year contract and is coming off an injury. They shouldn’t ride him too hard. They shouldn’t ride anybody too hard or you may end up with a Marc-Edourd Vlasic on ur roster by the end of one of their top four d men’s contracts.

Because I like Grant Hutton and his 775 K cap hit? Not really bro. He’s only gonna have to play minimal ice time, and when he played last year with ANDY GREENE, he was pretty good.

Don’t even pretend you know who Hutton is. The fact I don’t want to pay Justin Holl 2 million, and instead rely on an undervalued internal option is pretty irrelevant lol. It’s just a back up plan if Mayfield gets hurt lol.

When you don’t know what ur talking about you shouldn’t insert yourself. When you have Dobson and Pulock the third pair righty d man won’t play much anyway.

Of course I have lol. Hutton is preferable as a fourth option anyway bro lol. But there r a lot of late bloomers out there, so it’s weird of you to discount a guy who is 6-4 and a decent skater. Especially when he was only -1 playing with Andy Greene lol.
