I wish, but it seems Aho might be given the spot no matter what

I couldn’t see the tweet because it’s blocked on my ipad. Did it say aho was on the 3rd pair. My bad

Yes, it’s most likely Aho. At one point Aho was seen on the same level as Toews in the AHL. He was thought of as a future 2nd pair PP1 D in the NHL. When Adam Pelech tore his Achilles a few years ago Aho was made the permanent 8th defenseman and rarerly got into games. He played like 3 games in a span of 2 years. It killed his development.

rather slow news day, so here's a discussion piece:

With the power of hindsight, what do you think was the strongest draft for goaltenders?

My personal opinion is 2014, since it gave us:

- Thatcher Demko
- Alex Nedeljkovic
- VItek Vanacek
- Elvis Merzlikins
- Ilya Sorokin
- Ville Husso
- Kaapo Kakhonen
- Igor Shestyorkin

What's your opinion?

I don’t know what kind of advice Sandin is getting but there will literally be a top 4 role ready for him in like 10-15 games. No chance Muzzin comes close to playing 82 games

2012 is a good contender too

Vasi
Helly
Anderson
Ullmark
Murray
Drieger

Murray was at one time a top ten goalie.

Wait, Anderson was drafted twice?

The league isn’t ready for this

I will say, that D core could lead the Isles to the playoffs even if they struggle offensively (hypothetical). Im riding high on them (Dobson Romanov were my pivotal D selections in fantasy) - but that defence and goaltending is 2nd to few. If they can just get some ACTUAL (not Trotz Chemistry) chemistry, long term they're back where they left off. The Metro is a fascinating division.

Trotz makes most players stick to the system, doesn’t let most players make reads and use their instincts.

Pelech and Pulock didn’t stick to the system, they took more risks but they were able to recover - part of the reason they were so good. Certain players on the isles need to be able to make reads and be instinctual to be successful (Dobson, Beauvillier, Barzal, Wahlstrom etc..)

So for a Romanov-Dobson pair, Dobson can take more risks in transition knowing he has a mobile D partner that can cover for him and vice versa. They don’t have to play conservative

They’ll need to construct more high upside forward lines, but the D as is should be miles better than last season and possibly even better than 18-19 season when they had Pelech-Pulock, Toews-Mayfield as their top 4. The 3rd pair D was Leddy-Boychuk which was awful. Aho/Salo-Mayfield should be an above average 3rd pair.

I would like an investigation into this. If it’s a lie they should forfeit their 2023 1st IMO

Not sure LTIR is what he means. The pool of LTIR relief is only used if the Coyotes reach the upper limit of the cap. Is there some sort of requirement that a player that doesn't pass his physical get put there? Or does he just medically retire and the cap hit gets removed.

This is important because the Coyotes without Ladd's AAV are going to be below the cap floor.

Thus creating a need for them to add about $5 million in AAV to be in compliance. Thus sparking off a big bidder's market for that space with any or all of: Edmonton (Barrie?), Toronto (Kerfoot/Holl?), Florida (Hornqvist), and possibly Carolina (Gardiner).

If I were Arizona I would target Florida or Edmonton who are in the most desperate spot for cap relief; or even both if you could pull it off and acquire Barrie then flip him with retention to Florida who need RHD help.

No. Barzal also spends his summers on Long Island and his girlfriend is from NY. He likes the lifestyle. JT wife was from Toronto, she wanted to go back. Anyone who knew how to read between the lines knew a year before Tavares contract was up he was going to leave
