Had to go look that Devane vs Harpur bout, and came to the conclusion that the enforcers truly are a dying breed.
Sure after the trauma of Brendan Smith having to fight Wilson they brought in Ryan Reeves, but they are not the only team in that situation.

There are a few teams that have a guy willing to drop the gloves, but they are mostly just big/gritty third pair defensemen or relics quitting in a year or two.
Gudbranson, Simmonds, Borocop, Lucic, Deslaurier, Maroon and so on.
Then are the ones who drop the gloves to ignite the team or out of necessity: M. Foligno, Jamie Benn, Trouba (mostly after his own dodgy hit).

Are there any players at their peek age fighting and earning their place on the ice otherwise as well anymore? Jeannot perhaps, Duhaime? Wilson? Middleton?

Middleton for sure, but more of a team guy.

Gadjovich and Viel are both still being kept around in SJS.
Both have potential as bottom 6, quality players. Gaddy and Viel both have a nasty bite.

If you aren’t familiar with SJS guys you can follow them.

And up and coming Adam Raska has been notable in every single game in teal. Last night he destroyed Byfield.

Quinten Byfield stayed down after a hit from Adam Raska and then skated to the bench hunched over. Lias Andersson took exception to the hit and is in the penalty box, so the Sharks have a fourth power player of the 1st period.

That entire shift was one near-fight after another. It started when Blake Lizotte collided w/Adam Raska, who went face-first into the boards. Jeffrey Viel and Brendan Lemieux were also on the ice, so calamity ensued. It all ended with Viel collecting two penalties + none for LA.

Raska has legit Wilson potential but he’s no where near as talented but his work ethic and hustle make up for it. Throws big hits and is always looking for the big play. Ain’t afraid to drop the mitts and is just a wrecking ball. Again I’d say;

Raska - bottom 6er but like 30 points in the NHL would be a peak I’d think unless he can start building some more offensive prowess, but he looks great when he’s on. He’s the youngest here (2020 pick) - so a lot of time to grow.

Viel - better hands and more talent but most likely bottom 6er at best. He’s 25 now.

Gaddy - has been trying to improve but he’s a little less talented than Viel.

I’d take money on Raska having more NHL GP then Viel and Gaddy when careers are over.

“Raska’s numbers may not jump off the page but his relentless pace and high-energy play make him ideally suited for a depth role at the NHL level. Earlier this season he became just the second seventh-round pick from the 2020 draft to play in the NHL. I’m a believer in Raska’s ability to break through to regular NHL duty however consistent point production has never really been his forte at any level.“ - dobberprospects

Raska is a fun player to watch.

Martin fer doesn’t really drop the gloves but he lays the body a lot and played on the top pair last year

Not really no, unless they go back to Russia.

Big concern regarding hockey is how many Russian prospects are going to be mobilized. Fit, young, adult men are usually the first to get conscripted and that's the profile of a hockey player. Some might get exemptions but it's clearly the goal of this country to send as many young men as possible to die in a Ukrainian forest in service of fruitless endeavors.

I'd be very happy with a one for one swap for Middleton but they probably don't want to do that since they just got Middleton. JP looked extremely lost last night were at list line mates Foegele and especially McLeod looked good but he was given an "A" so that might mean a JP trade is not something they are considering

kulikov is a defenseman. The forward market is much different right now.

Interesting update from CJ about Sandin

This is a good sign the only thing I want to know is how much north of 1.4mill is he asking for. As if hes asking for a Durzi deal sure. if hes asking 2mill x 2 years then no

sandin would be smart to take a 1 yr 1 mill dollar deal. Takes him to arbitration next offseason where hell probably get at least 2.5 mill if he has a good season,

If he is more consistent with stopping low danger shot attempts he’s going to be the starter by November

I honestly see the Arb going more 2mill x 2 years but more likely I think we see 1.7mill x 2 years signed before the start of this season. As Sandin can then work hard and by the time thats up earn 4.5-6mill. As Muzzin, Brodie, and Gio will be done
