Lmao Schmaltz isn’t even close of having the value of Bourque + 1st. Dallas’s passes.

Bonino is worth MAX a 4th 50% retained, and we will take it.
I get after 3 years of Pavelski you have guilt and feel like you owe us a little extra but this is an over-payment.

That’s probably true but he had a decent year and still doing Bonino things. Much like Namestnikov he’d get a 4th but who knows. Bidding markets can get crazy

In case you didn’t notice Arizona is also taking back Dallas’s cap dumps in Faksa and Khudobin. Not to mention Arizona would be taking extra $750k back and Dallas would still have to pay extra assets to be rid of Faksa and Khudobin. May as well do it all in one swoop

Yes I saw that. Dobby plus Faksa would probably cost the two seconds or the first, or at most a 1st and a 2nd (which is very unlikely). So in the end would result in Schmaltz for Bourque + 2nd, even then Dallas is losing that trade. Schmaltz isn’t worth a prospect like Bourque.

I just don’t know what kind of player Schmaltz is. It’s gonna take some to get Arizona to trade Schmaltz

Only sticking point for the Ducks would be using a retention spot on 750k. If we've made all our other retention trades and still have a spot left to can see us doing this.

I agree with this. Schmaltz has played in Arizona, the basement of the league for the last number of years. He's the kind of player that could hit PPG on a better team, but it's risky given the length of his contract.

The guy will be 31 coming off his contract though. And if it’s about money altogether, the only big guy they need to re-sign next season is Hintz. Then there’s Peterson and Gurianov but they won’t be as costly. And also the Stars with or without Schmaltz would still have a lot of money left on the table for next season.

I don't see why any team acquiring Schmaltz would be overly concerned with the end of his current contract. The whole reason for acquiring him is potentially improving your team without paying an expensive trade price, instead taking on the risk that he may not work out. Plus dealing with Arizona is a unique opportunity to dump cap. Dallas would have 3-4 years of being a better team (the bet that they're taking) after acquiring Schmaltz, especially since they can retain everyone important like Hintz.

A lot of improvements they’d have to make for this season alone would be very costly. Especially if they move both Khudobin and Faksa. I feel like Schmaltz would be a pretty good player to get in return.
