2023-24 New Roster

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2022
Published: Sep. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Blake Wheeler bought out and new leadership announced.

-Morrissey (C), Scheifele (A), Ehlers (A)

-Brought in Barbashev for a few reasons but a big one was to have another established Russian NHL players to help with the development of guys like Rashevsky, Chibrikov, Zhilkin. Having someone around to help them get acclimated to North America would help in retaining these guys long term as well (if they pan out).

-Moved on from Stanley as I figure he's the odd man out and unfortunately had to move on from Gawanke as there simply isn't any room for him and I think he deserves a real shot which ARZ can give him.

-Jets still have tons of cap space to play with keeping in mind that Hellebuyck & Scheifele are in the last year of their respective deals and young guys like Perfetti & Heinola will be needing news deals after this year as well.

Obviously tons can change and this is a ways down the road but figured I would try to throw something together.

Thoughts on this roster Jets fans?

Interesting, but that 2nd line looks pretty weak.

The only way that the Dubois trade will happen like that is if the FLA pick is betwen 17 and 32.

I won't disagree with ya there. I hope by some miracle we are able to keep Dubois instead of trading him which would help but I'm not too confident there lol.

Which I assume it would be looking at Florida's roster this year.

Yeah, it's kind of scary how bad that line looks without a comparable center in there. Although I guess that could be said for any team that loses a top 6 center without an equivalent replacement to fill the spot.

With any luck, Connor and Dubois light it up again this year and that is enough to sway Dubois to stay.

If Kent Hughes really believes he needs Dubois, he’ll wait for him to become a free agent. There’s no point in giving up assets when we can wait a year and get him for nothing.

Ducks should not need an LD next season, we have internal options to turn to for that, its RD we will need.

All you have to do is read the trade description my friend, "This can be ANY team that needs a LHD for 1 year."

For MTL, I would want to know when this trade occurs? This is a 2023-24 roster. Are we talking next offseason? right now? at the trade deadline of next year?

If this was right now, I would do the deal. But the closer you get to PLD becoming a UFA, the less I want to pay. We can all agree that MTL is PLDs top choice for where he wants to go once he's a UFA. Now does that mean MTL is the only place? Probably not. But the Habs are in a position where they can wait to see if they can get him for free, and risk "losing" him to another team. MTL aren't competing in the next 2 years, and they don't really "need" PLD anyways. He would just be a happy bonus that can fall in their lap, and have zero impact to the Habs current plan if he goes elsewhere.

Off topic, but it is looking like Dan Robertson (Habs radio play-by-play guy) might be the new Jets TV play-by-play guy on TSN. That is, unless there is another team with a vacancy...
