Trades
1.
CBJ
  1. DeMelo, Dylan
Additional Details:
I have read many end-of-season reports extoling the virtues of DeMelo's defensive play, and him on the third pairing (or even on the second beside Vladislav Gavrikov) would work well.

"... he takes the phrase “stay-at-home defenceman” to the extreme."

"DeMelo’s role is not flashy, and there are no highlight reel clips of what he provides on a nightly basis, but his contributions are necessary to any success the Jets will enjoy next season."
WPG
  1. Meyer, Carson
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CGY)
2.
CBJ
  1. Määttä, Olli
Additional Details:
If you looked through ACGM a couple of days ago, I made a trade exactly like this. Red Wings fans thought the value was okay, but the timing was off. At the deadline (and if Maatta - Hronek doesn't work), this would be acceptable.

"Detroit gladly accepts at the Trade Deadline, But not before we need Maatta on our 2nd pairing with Hronek."

- @HockeyIsMyPassion61

"The 2nd + Bean being RFA gives us some flexibility for a player we aren't planning on keeping anyway. Our defense isn't supposed to be ready for another three or four years anyway so we can accept a tiny bit worse this year, we're still way better than last season."

- @Billy12Bob
DET
  1. Bean, Jake
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CBJ)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (CBJ)
3.
CBJ
  1. Blueger, Teddy
Additional Details:
Teddy had the second-highest shorthanded power rating (SHR) from morehockeystats.com with 393 (second only to Sean Durzi's 453). In terms of more well-known stats, he had a shorthanded faceoff percentage of 48.85% (64 of 131 from the dot), and only gave up 7 PPGs against (better than the next best forward (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins)'s 10). I feel like he'd be a good asset for a PK that was somewhat shaky last year.
PIT
  1. Foudy, Liam
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (CBJ)

I just don't think that CBJ is going to pay Gudbranson $4M just to stick him in the press box 2/3 of the way through year one of a 4-year deal

Paul Maurice called Demelo's play "coach porn". I think it costs more to get him and the jets probably don't wanna trade one of their only right shot guys, however...Ive been ranting on this site all summer about the jets moving some vets to make room for the younger Dmen. I like Demelo but I don't have the love fest others do for him. up the price to a 2nd and i think the jets would consider it

Detroit gladly accepts at the TDL, That's a really good offer for Olli Maatta.

The thing about CBJ defenseman is that although it looks weak right now, they have one of the best dman prospect pools in the league. They have Jiricek, Mateychuk, Christiansen, and Ceulmans who all look really solid. Give it another season or two, and CBJ will look amazing on the back end.

I mean yeah Detroit takes it and runs at the deadline but Columbus isnt a playoff team though so it won't happen.

The Jackets have no need for any of that. The defense core just needs some time to grow a develop. Doing any of these trades would cause more headaches down the road and would be horrible asset management.

Not sure I’d make the WPG trade, DeMelo=Gudbranson and we already have Gudbranson signed to a massive contract. Bean+ for Maatta seems like an overpayment for a 1 year player just to play on the 3rd pair, I’d rather sign De Haan who is still a UFA and waive Bean for anyone to have if he has no value like you’re suggesting. Blueger I’d be on board with if Columbus felt Johnson, Marchenko and chinakov aren’t NHL really but as a deadline add it means they did and I don’t see them sending them down mid season.

Also I’m not sure I’d be trading too many draft picks and young players for rentals as a bubble team.

No they don't. Not even close. Unless someone like Poehling proves he can do Blueger's job, Blueger is far too important to the bottom six depth to be moved.

That kind of logic makes zero sense. I see lots of people think that way and without trying to sound like a dick, it's simply flawed logic.

The Pens' goal is to win right now and Blueger makes this team much better. Moving him with no adequate replacement and simply HOPING someone else can replace what he brings hurts this team more than losing him for nothing.

Just simply a very bad decision. Teams lose players for nothing all the time. Thems the breaks.

Well said, someone needs to go on the Jets defense to make a spot for Heinola and/or Samberg and if DeMelo is the guy who has positive value then he should be the one to go, gotta be absolutely delusional if we think they're gonna be so much worse without DeMelo.. lol.. Jut change it to a 2023 2nd and its good.

Pens decline. You’d have to massively overpay for Blueger for 2 reasons. 1. Pens are a playoff contender and contenders don’t usually give up good players in the middle of a season when they are trying to win a cup. 2. You’re a division rival.
If POJ looks like he is ready for a top 4 role and Smith regains his confidence and wins a 3rd pair job by mid season, then maybe they’d be willing to trade Dumo for this package, but that’s still a HUGE MAYBE

Pens decline. He means way too much to the team. One of the most underrated players in the league and if he resigns and takes over Carter's 3rd line role I could see him becoming the next Copp.

Chevy is unlikely to make a trade unless someone throws a tantrum on the Jets (E. Kane) or on the target team (Dubois, CBJ). Time to familiarize myself with the waiver wire this fall. neutral

Pretty much. It's very possible Blueger may price himself out of here next year, but that doesn't mean you hurt the team by moving him now. As I said earlier, if Poehling or anyone else steps in and proves they can do his job, then that changes the narrative, but you don't do anything until/if that happens.
