I love seeing May smack him down, I can’t fathom why they attack him when May’s a genuinely good dude

I think the rebuild will happen in three years max.

Because people that expire in that third year

Carlson Jensen TVR *most likely Marty Ovi Oshie Backstrom Kuzy Dowd Milano

Ok so let’s say Kuzy doesn’t gets moved. We have coaching change and he goes crazy again.

What else would we do.

He wont come out and publicly state he wants to be traded. Id be shocked if he isnt moved

I don't think you remember Madison Bowey then, they are not on the same level. He honestly kind of reminds me of Martin Erat (though completely different styles of play)

more like if panik was getting paid twice as much. Bowey was literally unplayable, theres a huge argument that taking him out of the lineup was what won us the cup in 18

Now I’m nervous on how much it will cost to dump him

I think he's either getting moved in a package for a better player or bought out

Saw a tweet yesterday:

"The Caps won 60% of their games this season with Carlson in the lineup. That is a pace for 49 wins."

If Carlson doesn't get hurt, are the Caps comfortably in a playoff position? Yes or no, doesn't matter - but I think finally this season has shown Caps fans just how important Carlson is to this team (like it or not)

He may be maddeningly inconsistent in important moments, but no one can deny his impact and his offense is dearly missed. Sandin may turn out to be a decent insurance policy in creating offense if Carlson, god forbid, gets hurt again.

Agreed.

Looking ahead - Caps defense is pretty solid:

Fehervary - Carlson (hopefully this pairing gets back to consistent play - only one I am slightly worried about)
Sandin - Jensen (an analytical dream)
Alexeyev - TVR (this pairing has looked tremendous so far)

This should hopefully be the clue to MacLellan not to make any moves for defense outside of perhaps a veteran to ride the bench. (maybe Irwin again)

100%. I could see a vet defender coming in at, or close to league minimum.

Outside of that, I'd be interested in Brown again for a one year "prove it" deal. Then a true top 6 forward (or two depending on certain players getting traded or not, i.e. Kuzy).

I will definitely still remember all of the people calling me crazy for saying Carlson was still a top 10 defender in the league ...

Sprong is a 20-goal scorer.

Caps only have 1 20-goal scorer (Ovi)...

Sprong's defense was horrible, but can't deny the fact that Caps mis-managed youth (again)

He was my favorite player. I’m still furious with that trade and cried in the middle of class when it happened

In defense of MacLellan:
Johansson was headed towards that mark before he was traded, and is still a better all-around player. Sprong’s offense is no doubt great in the right situation, but he struggled with larger workloads and didn’t fit the style of the 3rd line in DC.

I think a lot of people looked too favorable on him because he was young, and he would be highly regarded by a lot less people had he been a few years older. I’m glad he’s done well in Seattle where he has people to cover for him when he makes mistakes, but he made a lot of stupid plays in DC would have gotten people like Mantha crucified.

If Oshie retires and Mantha is moved, the Caps have A LOT of cap space work on this team.

It is unfortunate that this UFA forward class is pretty week. I mean, Bunting is probably the best winger, and I am not sold on giving him a 4-5 x $4.5m (or more) contract...
