Prospect swap

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2022
Published: Sep. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Two of Benoit, Mahura, White, and Vaakanainen will get waived, so it makes sense to move one of them for a forward who will actually be on the roster, instead of losing Vaak on waivers.

Colorado are the opposite, since Kaut probably doesn't make the top 13 forwards, but Vaak could be a useful 7D.

The overall frame work on the trade is fine, but Vaakanainen is the most likely to make the team and not get traded.

White is a non-factor here. They signed him to a 2-way contract because the expectation is he plays in the minors. If some team claims him so be it. I don't think Verbeek cares if Mahura gets waived and claimed. He's a Bob Murray player that likely gets dumped at some point. He's also just not an NHL level defenseman.

Personally, my path as Ducks GM is just not do a trade. I'll waive my guys (Mahura and White) and what happens happens. If Kaut also ends up on waivers I can put in a claim and if not him then someone else. That's assuming I want to add a winger. And I might not depending on how camp goes for certain players.

I think Vaaks and Benoit will be our 6th and 7th defensemen so I don’t see either of them being dealt, Mahura on the other hand could be on the move

Im not a fan of Vaakanainen at all, hes put up pretty terrible underlying numbers in every season hes played

Id be more interested in Benoit. Hes played fewer minutes but imo is the better player. plus hes way more physical and already knows Manson

Kaut doesn't seem to have much to offer either. Middle six upside, currently AHL/NHL Tweener. I'd give you a Mahura for him.

Kaut seems to be displaying failure to launch vibes in the NA pro arena, unless you have access to advanced stats that I don't that tell otherwise.

He probably ends up on the Gulls.

Kaut isn't a tweener type. His game much more well-rounded than a tweener. He's good defensively and has solid passing and shooting. The only thing that's kept him out of the NHL is that Bednar likes guys who can play at 110% pace every shift, and Kaut hasn't proved he can do that yet. His first camp he was puking on the ice during preseason drills lol, so early on the issue was conditioning. That's improved though and he clearly has NHL talent, just seems like he may need to get away from Bednar to find his way into the league. He plays a more meticulous heavy game than Bednar likes from his forwards as he wants guys playing at a ridiculous pace. In a team that doesn't rush the pace as much as the Avs he's easily an solid middle 6 forward. Hope we don't lose him to waivers as that would be a waste.
