Initial Creation Date: Sep. 13, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Huge Risk by EDM, but it could pay off Big Time + they get under the Cap.
Would prefer Holloway at 3 or 4C, but not enough cap space

Why is there a debate at all? Five years of Gallagher is horrid.

Definitely, but it helps the top six big time now which is the Oilers window.

Good deal overall. Habs would probably take it.

Pitlick is sneaky good though... He might be the best player in the deal, though many might not agree.

Edmonton doesn't want anything to do with this trade.

Lavoie's far from garbage. He was picked 38th overall = early 2nd Round and has put up decent numbers everywhere he goes. He's compensation for taking Foegele

Gallagher's contract might be bad, but the Player himself is not. You wouldn't be calling him horrid if he returned to scoring 30+ Goals and 50+ Points and helped EDM Win a Cup, something I don't see Puljujarvi doing any time soon, not with the Oilers anyways

I live in EDM and the Oilers are my 2nd Team... This Trade is just as much about Cap Space as it is Quality. EDM has to do something. They're over the Cap and haven't found or brought in a RW'er who can finish consistently for them. Kane & Hyman are LW's and Gallagher > Yamamoto or Puljujarvi

Two years of Pitlick @$1.1mil/yr and Wideman @$762.5k/yr are bargains compared to $3mil/yr for Puljujarvi, $2.75mil/yr for Foegele and $4.5mil/yr for Barrie

If MTL would prefer to keep the 2nd Round Pick and the Oilers want to keep Lavoie, those can be taken out no problem

PJ stats are just the same as Gallagher's right now if not better. Oilers are infinitely better having PJ at 3m and Barrie at 4.5m than 5 years of Gallagher at 6.5m
Kinda of a silly argument IF Gallagher returned to 30 goals.....hasn't happened to awhile or helped EDM the Cup. Heck PJ had 24 goals last season.

Well, I think last year was a blip for Gallagher, between playing through lower body injuries after a long playoff run and playing for a poor team who's coaches elected to give the Top-6 spots to Hoffman, Anderson & Drouin (a good reason why they likely didn't do well) over him. There's nothing to say he won't return to scoring 0.40 Goals Per Game and 0.65-0.70PPG = 33 Goals and 53-57 Points in an 82 Game Season.

In fact, like Evander Kane, I think Gally might find another level and do even better playing with McDavid & Draisaitl, possibly 40+ Goals and 65-70+ Points (something Yamamoto & Puljujarvi have not and likely won't achieve), which would easily make him worth the $6.5mil he's paid. I don't like the length of Gally's contract but if EDM is in win now mode and this trade helps them with their Cap Issues, they should certainly consider it and deal with that problem later.

EDM'll have tons of Space in a few years when Kane & Draisaitl move on and guys like Holloway, Bourgault, Tullio & Lavoie can replace them on the cheap, not to mention the Salary Cap will be going up each year going forward

Id rather take a 3rd round pick and draft with it
