I'm curious as to why Dubois would wear an "A". Hasn't he stated that he's going to be testing UFA in two years?

Agreed that this was the right call, although maybe an awkward one to make.

I think this year the A's will be, Morrissey, Scheifele, Ehlers & Wheeler (I think he'll still wear a letter)

Next year, I'd like the Captaincy to go to Morrissey with Ehlers and Scheifele (if he improves and shows he wants to be here this year) as A's.

What he stated was he wants to go to free agency, which most players should do. See what's out there...be courted by a whack of teams as they tell you how awesome you are

Precisely, so why add a guy to your newly renovated leadership core when he's essentially told you he's leaving in two years? Seems odd to me.

I wouldn’t even dignify this post with a response if not for your comment lol. The Isles are going to have to give Barzal a big deal since he puts up with their trash management style lol. His best winger last year was Parise, followed by Palmieri…. That’s ****ing embarrassing.

Offensive prowess and leadership qualities regularly get confused in situations like this. Dubois is a good player but not a good leader, many fans confuse productivity with ability to bring a team together.

Both Lou and Lambert have said that the 3 LD spot will be an internal competition between Salo and Aho with most fans believing that Salo will win.

If both players fail at establishing themselves as a full time NHL player and Bellows is a regular scratch a trade like this could happen, but it would be closer to the deadline and not before the season.

Agreed. Feels like a move in part to try to cede something to Dubois to convince him to stay.

But I mean, MTL awaits...

How many players have said this, gotten to UFA, and ended up staying with their team? Stamkos is the only one who comes to mind...

I agree it is a good move. You can't try to trade your captain and him being happy to help facilitate a move (according to beat reporters and insiders), and then retain him as captain when nothing panned out.

I am guessing the same "A"s as you but with Lowry instead of Wheeler otherwise #26 might still be viewed as first among equals.

I was going to say, Lowry is my choice as well if they don't retain Wheeler as an "A" I agree with your logic there, might be best to have him not wearing a letter at all.

Re-enactment of the Bowness/Wheeler conversation.

Bowness: "Hi Blake, how was your summer?"
Wheeler: "Great. How was yours?"
Bowness: "Awesome, thanks. So Blake, who's the captain?"
Wheeler: "I am"
Bowness: "Wrong answer. Separately, don't text reply to a phone call."

Honest question from someone who doesn't really follow WPG...did some **** go down or something to make this happen? They can call it what they want or justify it how they want, but I feel you don't strip a C of their C unless they're just not a good C.

There was a minute years ago for CBJ after Foligno was named C that Torts was talking about maybe taking it away because the team was struggling, so I remember a similar conversation then. It ultimately was more Torts being Torts than Foligno ****ing up or anything, but still...

I do think Dubois is a good leader. He often said a lot of what needed to be said last year. That’s why I gave him an A.

I think this is all just boiling over from last year and the trade talks at the beginning of the summer. This is Bowness's team now and he's going to do what he see's as best. I don't see this change coming from on specific incident but it's gotta be hard to keep Wheeler with the C after it was made known they were actively shopping him and that he was okay with that.

I also genuinely believe that this organization and Bowness in particular wants to see what other members of this team can bring to that table in terms of leadership because there are a lot of guys who don't wear a letter who are leaders in that room. Looking at guys like Ehlers & Lowry in particular.

To add to this, there has been reporting by local journalists that the something has been broken in the locker room for a few years now. In the back half of 2018-19, the Jets traded for Hendricks essentially as director of morale to help the room. Then the Jets had Byfuglien retire unexpectedly the in 19-20 and then Wheeler admitted that he should have been easier on Laine after the latter was traded the following season. Maurice said in the past that he leaves the room to the Wheeler and it seems that it hasn't worked. Sean Reynolds (Sportsnet) said, “I can say that players have come to me to tell me that things are terrible inside that room” just this past April.

Is it all Wheeler's fault? No, but he shares in the responsibility with Maurice (now gone), Cheveldayoff (got an extension) and the owner (not going anywhere).

It goes beyond trading for Hendricks, why did they even sign Hendricks the season before at the end of August?

It wasn't for Hendricks hockey playing abilities....
