I can see your point, but you would have to admit, adding a middle 6 forward that can add offense improves the team.

They moved Kulikov so there wasn't a $2m (Goli or Kulikov) d-man in the pressbox every night.

However, Kerfoot would be playing every night over a $900K Dewar or Duhaime.

Money better spent.

Duhaime and Dewar are cheap 4th liners. Comparing them to Kerfoot just makes Kerfoot a very expensive 4th liner. MN needs a quality center. Kerfoot isn't a quality center. So he doesn't really fit anywhere in the lineup. Rossi, Jost, or Steel can fill that same 3rd line wing spot without a big difference from what Kerfoot does.
