Rangers don't want/can't take on more cap. Don't know why the Habs would take a more expensive and less term Holl in exchange for Wideman.

The Habs say no. Wideman is a great slept on dman with the bonus of having an awesome contract. Holl is generally considered dead weight unless things have changed from the playoffs. Plus the Habs also need him to help prospects transition.

MTL easily says no. If you want help with cap space, we currently have none to sell. If we did have some to sell, you'd have to pay us to take extra salary for no good reason.

Makes more sense to pick Holl off waivers at the season's start.
