After jack hans article

Description
I read an article the other day from jack han about mat barzal and how he desperately needs a legit 1st line winger preferably with speed to maximize his talents. So it got me thinking, who is going to be next summers alex debrincats and matthew tkachuks? After making my way through every team and finding some possibilities i came to the conclusion that the most likely younger winger who could fit with NYI and might actually be traded was SJS winger timo meier. So i set off trying to craft a proposal that might work.
Keep in mind a couple of things. This is based on the alex debrincat deal. And this is assuming grier decides this roster cant compete (which is imo the logical outcome).

As for the varly trade i know he has a 16 team NTC and might decline this trade but there are always teams looking for goaltending at the TDL so it could be any team.

Disagreements are certainly fine and sometimes appreciated as they help me understand things better and from other perspectives but please try to keep the comments civil.

        Additional Details:
Picks 19 and 27 along with 2 solid prospects and josh bailey. Bailey must be moved for cap reasons but hes still a 45-50 point forward who would only have 1 year left and be a good veteran leader to have in a locker room. He does take away some value to the trade but based off of debrincats deal (7, 39, and a 3rd 2 years away) who is a better player already signed at a good number in a significantly worse draft i think its pretty fair.

He is certainly next year's prize asset. I don't think your package gets it done though, Debrincat got a 7 OA pick with a 2nd and 3rd, picks 19 and 27 are much closer to an early 2nd in value than 7OA, and if SJS is going to commit to a rebuild, they will want higher value picks, or more of them. You may need to look at tossing in some of NYIs 1sts as well.

I also have my doubts he will take that small a pay raise.

Remember holmstrom and bolduc are in there as well. Not to mention a much better draft where 19 is probably more like 14-15 last year as well as debrincat being significantly better.
As for the contract what do you think he gets?

Debrincat was a total Fleecing of Chicago, your not getting that good of a deal. that said this isn’t far off but you gotta add for us to take bailey as he would be essentially worthless to the sharks
remember Meier is only 26 is 4” and 40lbs bigger and on a legit team with 2 scoring lines should be a 40G 90p potential.
remember he scored 35 and was a PPG on a team with literally 3 top 6 guys and one was couture.

he will be closer to if not 9 mil a year.

In the absence of a top 10 pick, San Jose is going to want the closest thing to a sure thing they can get. SJS may still get some great prospects in the 20s of the 2023 draft, but it's not the kind of player they could get with a lot pick. They may ask as high as a Romanov or potential superstar in Raty in the absence of another late first.

To acquire a bubble elite RFA is going to hurt, whoever can pry him from SJS. And SJS has to admit that their window has closed, which they are still publicly stating they are in compete now mode.

As for money, I figure in the 9-10 range, assuming he shows last year wasn't a fluke.

Toronto doesn't need Valarmov, And it was already reported that all Canadian teams are on his 16 team no trade list.

Hot trash offer for Timo Meier, No way San Jose accepts that offer.

Fiala just got 19 in a worse draft and faber. The way i broke down this trade was for the most part holmstrom to move bailey and 2 1sts and bolduc for meier which considering the other trades that have happened recently for PPG wingers is pretty solid.
As for the contract who knows. I wouldnt give him 8×9 and i dont think he gets that unless he puts up another season of 40g 90p which i dont think he does. Tage thompson just got 7×7 and hes a C. Robert thomas and jordan kyrou just got 8×8.125. Fiala got 8×<8 so i dont think its crazy to give him 8 years 64-65m

Stop it. 9-10 range that means you think he gets money like gaudreau and tkachuk. Does he get close to barkov/point? And those guys are Cs. Answer is obviously not. I think youre much more in the robert thomas/jordan kyrou/kevin fiala range than you are with barkov/point/tkachuk.
I understand the want of a close to sure thing which this package doesnt really provide, but i think from a pure value standpoint it works. Though i do get that the lack of a top 10 pick or top prospect regardless of value could be a dealbreaker.

Like i wrote in the description if you had any care to read it, it could be any team. As for their need for varlamov considering theyre trying to win a cup with matt murray and ilya samsonov i would calm down just a little with saying they dont need an upgrade.
Just like your lack of logic with the 1st half of your statement, you again display a lack of sensibility with this side of it. Look at the trades made recently for 1st line wingers and please tell me how this deal is so much worse than any of them? But you cant bc you dont let actual deals that happen irl affect your valuations of trade values. You decide what you think a player shoild be worth instead of using comps to try to determine what a player is worth.

Give me a break, Holmstrom, Bailey and Bolduc are a waste. Dallas 1st will be a Mid-Teen 2023 1st round pick and Toronto's late. Yeah like i said any team going after Meier would blow away that offer.

Stars need to give up a first for another defensive defenseman like they need a hole in their head

I mean arent they running colin miller as their RD2? Maybe that was just a hallucination, my bad. Either way trying to predict what teams are going to be interested in certain players at the TDL is practically impossible. But there are always teams looking for big physical top 4 dmen (think savard chiarot manson)

No I don’t think so look at the offer Debrincat got and Chicago was actively moving him and that was the best deal they had for him on the table and Fiala got traded for even less young top line players are getting traded for alot less and I’m sure Meier wants to compete soon so they’re going to have to look to trade him soon

So again. Please tell me how this is much worse than the debrincat deal who is a significantly better player. And its better than the fiala deal though MIN didnt have all the leverage. You say its gonna get blown away, what team is gonna blow away an offer for meier that includes 2 1sts and a couple of prospects.

The Alex DeBrincat trade was a royal joke, Kyle Davidson just gave him away. Debrincat was worth far more than a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Pierre Dorian took him to the cleaners on that one.

Will likely be Hakanpaa. Which I’m not thrilled about but replacing Klinger with Mayfield isn’t much better. At least Hakanpaa doesn’t cost us a first rounder and then some. If the Stars are looking to add on the back end at the TDL they will be looking for an offensive defenseman most likely

1st mayfield is a lot better than hakanpaa. 2nd maybe they go for an offensive dman and mayfield gets moved somewhere else but thats the going rate for players like him and dallas does need a RD2 thats why i picked them.
