Simply on the lack of available cap space this trade doesn't work for MTL. Would gladly take that return for Drouin, but we don't have the cap space.

MTL currently has the space and LTIR credits to make it work, but will have lots of space when they move out another Forward or two like Anderson, Gallagher, Dadonov, Hoffman or Armia

I doubt PK Subban signs in EDM for that though, he might for TOR, otherwise I think he's looking for $2-3mil/yr still

W for MTL but they don't have the cap space. If you're going to trade a perennial 50 point RHD at least get something of equal value back.

We do not currently have the cap space with LTIR credits, Carey Price @ 10.5 million on LTIR will leave us with <$300,000 in cap space.

I think this deal would be too good for MTL to turn down. Don't you think they're done with Drouin by now? To pick up a Top Scoring RD and Decent Early 2nd Round Prospect, I think MTL makes it work whether they play short or burying Armia & Byron in the minors, if need be, assuming they don't get more LTIR from either Byron or Monahan. But like I already mentioned I don't believe MTL is done moving one of their Veteran Forwards out yet either

I 100% agree we're done with Drouin and they could definitely make other moves to play some cap gymnastics but all I had said this proposal wouldn't work due to the cap space restriction as it stands currently.

There's definitely going to be at least one more move before puck drop and I actually really hope it's a trade somewhat like this to bring in Barrie. I'd rather not have retention and drop Lavoie, maybe add a pick somewhere to balance but that would be a trade MTL could do.

Mtl would accept. Lavoie isnt much of a prospect. Bottom 6er at best with skating issues. Could just be half retained Drouin for Barrie straight up and that would work for both sides!

I can't see MTL moving Drouin without retention unless it's for an equally troubling/expensive contract like Lucic, Zucker, Hornqvist, Van Rymsdyk or Tatar, etc. which neither do anything for MTL's Future other than gambling they have a better season in MTL so they can be flipped for Greater Assets by the TDL. Better to just do so with Drouin then though

They definitely arent done. Way too many overpaid wingers and they need RHD help but Edmundson will probably move over to the right side as he did in St Louis/Carolina

Looks like a Decent Prospect to me. Big Skilled Right Shot RW/C. Not like those grow on trees like Left Shot LW's do

They got a ton of RWs on the roster. LW was a need on the team to begin the year and why Dadonov made sense for them. If you arent lighting up juniors/minors like Tavares and you have skating issues then the odds are against you!

I'd say Lavoie did just fine in the Q, putting up great scoring #'s in his last 3 seasons. He's also played well in Sweden and in he AHL, where he's likely playing a 3rd line roll. Let's wait till he plays more Top-4 minutes in the AHL and gets some playing time in the NHL before giving up on him. He'll just be turning 22 next week, so he's still young yet, but already has good size
