Good luck when he sits out. You only have so much leverage.,but your underpricing the market. 111 g in 212 games the 3 previous seasons. Good luck getting in to sign cheaper.
You seem to think this is like the Esposito era Ownership says you get this and that's it GLWT

matthews has even less. his only option is sit and lose money or play in europe/khl for 1/5th of the pay.

Day 1 on the job and Dubas screwed himself by signing J.T. , everything done after that signing was a cause and effect domino tumble.

Dubas is the most over rated GM.

Yeah, shoulda hired hunter, i hear he's doing great things in the nhl

Really no one would have tried to sign a top 5 goal scorer? 🙄 You're comments make you seem extremely clueless!!!

Again as I said 5th in goals the previous 3 seasons

Alex Ovechkin 133 Nikita Kucherov 120 Connor McDavid and John Taveras 112 Austin Mathews 111. Clueless

every single player in the top 10 in that list earns less than matthews except mcdavid and that's with mcdavid signing up for 8 years not matthews 5 years.

you can try and spin it any way you want but it was a bad contract and people knew it at the time.

He was also the youngest guy on that list and was clearly getting better. Better to pay for the 20's than 30's

Are you seriously trying to tell me he hasn't performed to his contract?

obviously...so, he should have signed for less when he's lived up to or I might argue exceeded his contract, and this makes sense to you?!!! Because it makes none to me.

50/50? its 1/3 for 2/3 against and that's with the large leafs bias factored in.

Again he's lived up to it . It wasn't an overpay you and they are WRONG players don't just have to take what ownership wants to give them. Arbitration would have killed Toronto

his contract doesn't have the value his peers contracts have. it's hurting the leafs. the leafs could easily be under the cap right now with a full roster if dubas negotiated better.
