Dont think the Pens spend a 1st for Wheeler. I think they would target a younger player if they do move their 1st.

Yeah and in a world where chariot gets a first demelo who is better defensively cheap contract and a right shot to boot he's a Chris Taney mini that's worth a first at the deadline no doubt

This is assuming newhook is struggling and needs a change to unlock his game in a top 6 role and Colorado gets a 6 time ppg center at 3m for 2 playoff runs not just one so it's a rental for multiple years which helps them with a center behind mack to run it back newhook pick 29-32 and a pick in the late 50s in 2025 doesn't seem like a bad deal for them really puts them over the top

It could be a 2nd that becomes a first if they make the conference final like the copp deal or 2 2nds or some other combination he should have some value to a team trying to compete

And what better way then to trade him to a new situation so he can move past what was and not have to take on a leadership role and can reinvent himself to be more attractive as a ufa

Avs have little reason to trade such a young player who has lots of runway to become the 2C they need just for a couple bites at the apple in the near term when the core they have should be around for at least the next 3 years. Scheif is a good player but he'll be 31 when his deal expires so, even if he performs, the Avs will be in the same place they were with Naz except they won't have a Newhook waiting in the wings.

COL isn’t doing that. DeMelo at the TDL gets that but not any other time.
