I think this is quite a big overpay and there really isn't a good spot to slot him in.

I doubt St Louis would trade Barbashev alone for Rasmussen. Rasmussen is bigger and younger but Barbashev isn't small is just entering his prime and had more than twice as many points last year.

Sorry I should clarify myself. It's an overpay for Detroit because the red wings are not a contender. They should've be giving a decent amount of their future for a 1 year solid rental that many playoff contending teams would love. Red wings are still in their rebuild... Nearing the end I believe but not yet so Yzerman would say no to this. He has many times said he's not gonna rush this rebuild and this trade goes exactly against what he says.

EDIT: The ONLY way he trades for Barbashev is if he believes at the TDL he can get more for him then he traded for, and if he fills a role. See the Leddy trades as a reference which STL Blues fans should be aware of...

You don't think Barbashev would want to commit long-term to the wings?

Ok fair enough if there was a trade and immediately sign deal in place then it might be different but still he's not exactly in our winning window and would want a solid money/term contract so I would have to say no, unless he gives us a cheaper option than resigning Bert

Barbashev doesn't fit the winning window of the team? Maybe not as a core guy, but how about as an experienced vet with championship pedigree? Just like Sunny

Well if Detroit think barbashev is really that guy who scored 60 pts last year and I'm not convinced he is, then yeah I think you do this deal. Its a tough deal though. Youd want to see if the productuon is real before you resign him long term but if he gets to the end of the season unsigned you're screwed.
