full UFA TDL sell

Description
bulju for McLeod and Bastian added cus there's this one Oilers fan that post it once per day

Canucks trade is basically obligatory when making a NJD agm at this point

I don't rate the Blues current LHD, but i did the trade before considering the possibility of Perunovich growing into a 2nd pairing role which doesn't seem too unlikely to me.
if Graves isn't a fit for the Blues I'm sure someone will let me know, value does seem fair for a top4 LHD at 1.6m however.

Tatar at 2.25m for a playoff berth seems to be worth a mid rd pick to me, would canes be a candidate to take him at TDL?

Johnsson would be a decent low cost buy for the Kraken (or any team really) if they were in the WC races and in need for some additional forward depth

I love Robertsson, a lot of Leafs fans on here seem to love Wood.
lets make this happen

haula for a 3rd seems reasonable, Jets didn't seem like the worst destination for him either

Canucks pass we aren't trading a top 6 forward for a rental

There are likely some that disagree, but I do it from EDM's POV.

If the Canes hasn’t signed Stastny, I think they would have Gina after Tatar half retained. The only problem is when Patches gets back, Tatar would be forced to play on the 4th line. Necas is already looking like he will get dropped to the 4th line when Patches comes back, so that would essentially make Tatar one of 2 things. 1) he is Kase insurance, or 2) he is the 13th/14th forward. If the Canes make any moves at the deadline outside of their big reacquisition of Patches, it would probably be to get a depth goalie for a playoff run. They already have their depth options for forwards in Stepan and Pederson, and on defense it would be Chatfield and Bear, since Coghlan will more than likely be the mainstay 3RD. So acquiring Tatar is a bit pointless for the Canes to do.

The value of players is not the same as a few years ago. These guys with high caps and one year left are worth negative value. This is a flat cap world, and it’s way harder to trade players now

I wouldn't. It nets Edmonton some cap space but two bottom of the roster types is a pretty piss poor return.

VAN - Fine with it, although I like the pieces from Ottawa too (for Severson swap)
STL - Made more sense if they had not extended Leddy. My guess of Graves possible destinations: Florida, Los Angeles (maybe Colorado if they more Girard)
EDM - Alright, sign me up. But if Oilers are buying at deadline, might it be more futures-oriented deal? This looks like off-season swap.
CAR - If Tatar gets a 3rd, I'm down. It would more likely be an older prospect or later pick. (Maybe Bok, who loses waiver exemption next year)
TOR - Wood's value is very, very low right now. He would have to return to 100% health and 2020 form to get this return.
SEA - Done (but I think Johnsson finishes year here)
WPG - Would be surprised if Jets are buying rentals. I suppose they could be if everything falls into line.

Will attempt my own UFA TDL scenario. See what you think.

Cap space that avoids us having to pay to move cap, a 2nd round pick which could net another Kulak through the year, and two young, quality bottom-6 fowards isn't a poor return. That is, unless you're either very high on Puljujarvi or don't value what McLeod and Bastian showed last year (a combination of size, speed, FOs, physicality, and decent scoring in a very defensively-focused role). I think we've been over this a number of times, though, so there's no sense beating the dead horse.

Players in their final year rarely have negative value. Maybe during Summer before....or if they are dead weight (ie, Richard Panik, John Moore)

But "negative" hits are mostly from how many off-seasons a team has to endure with that player on roster. Pending UFAs who would still be on 23-man rosters should be negative.

Besides, Tatar at $2.25 million, Wood at $1.6 million?
Those numbers are easily to absorb at deadline when only 20% of the season remains.
I would say about 28 or 29 teams would be able to fit those hits at deadline.

Wood doesn’t have negative value. Tatar and Johnsson do imo. They would’ve moved one of those two by now if it didn’t cost anything

Devils haven’t needed the cap space, and both are In final years. So no reason to pay to move them.

Besides, pending UFAs rarely have negative value. First, one year of cap is easy to manage. Second, if you are adding a big number, it’s likely via trade and you can always ship salary back. Third, that cap is off the books when next round of contracts are due in July.

There have been a bunch of cap dump trades in recent years. But all of them had contracts whose term spanned at least one free agency period (most were multi-year).

So while Johnsson and Tatar may not get many offers because they are so-so players, they would not be dumped with assets. They just wouldn’t be traded.

The Canucks would be missing a rather good opportunity, but clearly they would struggle to come up with enough cap space for both Horvat and Severson next season, as well as Petterson the following year. Unfortunate for them.
