Description
Preseason hasn't even started yet, and i felt it's time to predict how opening day will look next season.

- This is operating under the assumption that Alexandre Texier doesn't return this year. I'm not sure if we'd sign him to a lower deal, or he just doesn't sign.

- Erik Badbranson gets bought out. $1.2M-ish won't kill us, even if it's over 6 years.

- Andy signs a bridge deal, and Gavi gets a shorter extension. I don't know about you, but i don't necessarily like the idea of giving a 26 year old a 6 year deal.

- Mateychuk and Jiricek play most (if not all) of 2022-23 in the AHL (or WHL in the case of Mateychuk) and do the Entry-Level Slide (my favorite move to bust out on the dance floor). I even did the calculations for what their cap hit would be! Both will probably end up on the NHL roster at some point in 2023-24.

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. I certainly hope he will (as calloused as that sounds) because we don't need an anchor like that when Kent, Silli and Marchenko will all need their big boy deals before the beginning of 2024-25.

i think he would be the first in history to sign a multiyear contract with a team and gets bought out before season starts. its also literraly impossible because the buyout out window is long gone.

I should have specified: Gudbranson gets bought out at the end of the 2022-23 season (this year). My mistake.

Chinny def doesn't get that much unless he bags 20 this year and gets another 10-15 assists, while showing great growth on the D side of his game. Feel like Peeke gets a little less and Gavi gets a little more but I like the look of this team.

I'd be pretty surprised if Gavrikov only signs a 3 year deal. He's going to be a UFA after this season, correct? If he's anywhere close to last year, he's going to get paidddd (he should at least...he's an underrated stud).

If you guys start slow, and aren't willing to give him some term, I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded. Should you go 6 years for a 26 year old though? Absolutely.

I don't know if it's paranoia or what, but in case Gavrikov falls off a cliff in terms of performance going into his early 30s a la Karl Alzner (the chances are slim, but not zero), i don't want to be covering that. Shorter deals like 3 years sound safer. Hopefully this explanation is understandable.

Really need Chinny to take a big step this season…a 4 x $3.75M seems kind of big for him. Last year felt like he got thrown a bit too deep into the pool for his own good.

And yeah, Tex is going to be a variable. Assuming he comes back to play, his contract slides, and we need to fit him in.

Oh for sure...I absolutely get it...I'm just assuming that the player (his agent at least) has a dollar value/term in mind, that, if Columbus isn't willing to come close on, he'll chase somewhere else. He'll be 27 when he hits free agency, and if he gets less term than guys like Chiarot/Leddy, I'd be absolutely shocked.

If I were betting, I'd say 5 x $5 or so. As a Ducks fan, ouuuuuu man I'd be all over that.

Yeah 4x4 isn't a great contract, not going to argue there.. but at least there's a good chance that cap will go up significantly in the next few years and that might make that deal a bit more palatable in a few years.
Let's see what he can bring on the #CBJ before completely writing him off, he might be better then we anticipate . I think expectations among the #CBJ fan base are so low he might actually impress... I hope

Jackets fans are going to LOVE Gudbranson for the way he sticks up for his teammates and never shies away from dropping the gloves. He's also going to provide a lot of value that we won't ever get to see. Like the conversations he has with guys like Peeke, Jiricek and Cuelemans when they're in the sauna, in the weight room, after tough losses, etc. He has always been extremely respected everywhere he goes. Those are guys that create a good culture for organizations. He's not getting bought out until MAYBE the last year of his contract, but I doubt it. More likely is that he ends up on LTIR for the final year.

Clearly the Jackets defense got some skill, and there is more skill coming.. but as Torts would say we are missing some stiffness. Gudbranson brings a lot of stiffness to this undersized D-core, I saw that golf outing picture today and boy ... we definitely needed some size there.
