I can't see NSH trading for another LHD

6 LHD on the roster and only 2 RHD-- doesn't make sense.

Calgary doesn't need a 4RW.
For help our lineup will look like
Huberdueau-Lindholm-Mangiapane/Toffoli
Coleman-Kadri-Mangipane/Toffoli(the other one)
Milano/Pelletier-Backlund-Dube
Lucic-Rooney-Lewis/Ritchie(reportedly signing Ritchie) and we have loads of prospects that could play in that spot as well

Bringing in Välimäki without sending another LD back doesn't make sense to me, and I don't see him as a clear upgrade on Lauzon anyway.

If we can move that Lauzon contract i’d much rather have Valimaki

CGY needs to move out one of their D and yes, could use a Better 4RW. Lewis isn't bad, but he's not great and with Rooney, we can scratch him.

This Trade is because of the Brett Ritchie Signing. Only other guy we currently have that looks decent enough to be in the NHL is Adam Klapka. Schwindt & Duehr don't look good enough yet. I'd play Matthew Phillips before either of those two or Brett Ritchie

They're both still works in progress, and I don't think one is a clear cut favourite over the other right now. Lauzon can play the right side though (not sure if Välimäki could too), and is closer to being an everyday NHL defenseman. Lauzon makes more sense for NSH, at least for the upcoming season.

Folks, I posted this Trade from NASH's perspective so you would see Valimaki inserted at 3RD

Maki would be great competition for Lauzon, but I assure you Valimaki is the Clear Upgrade and would improve your Defense

just because you're playing RD doesn't mean you magically become right-handed though

organizationally, it doesn't make sense if NSH still has Lauzon on the roster after the deal

Which do you care about more? Winning and having the best D-Man on the ice or what hand the player is!?

Lots of D-Men play both sides and some of the best most effective RD's are Left Handed, like Miro Heiskanen, Rasmus Dahlin & Shea Theodore for example

Don't be a handist man

Why NASH signed Lauzon for $2mil boggles my mind, same with Tucker Poolman in VAN. Like Crazy Bad Decisions imo

Even if you don't agree with NSH acquiring Lauzon or signing him to that contract, bringing in another bottom of the roster defenseman without subtracting one would be doubling down on the mistake.

I'm still keeping an open mind about Lauzon. No one identifies and develops young defensive talent like the Preds. They've earned some leeway with me.

Välimäki wouldn't get as big of an opportunity in NSH than Lauzon either. The coaches know Lauzon, and have had a chance to work with him already. Lauzon's older, more experienced, and has been a regular member of an NHL roster before. Even if you feel he has the higher ceiling, Välimäki hasn't developed that far yet, and younger defensemen usually get very short leashes and very little icetime in NSH. With Borocop in the mix too, for nights they want some more muscle in the lineup, Välimäki would honestly be #8 on the depth chart, with Lauzon still there.

With five top four defensemen on the roster already, bringing in another option for the final spot isn't a priority. It's redundant, and just eats up a little more of what's left of NSH's cap space unnecessarily.
