That could be quite a pick, is it protected?

Dallas is solid, but no guarantee they aren’t in the lottery

I thought a 2nd and/or another prospect would be the return. Credit the Rangers for waiting to get the return they wanted.

He should be worth a 1st. Lundkvist was worth a 2nd with maybe a throw in. Toronto should be on the phones trying to take advantage of this situation.

Very solid for NYR. When I heard an unproven player asked for a trade, I thought NYR was going to lose a decent youngster for very little. Instead, they get way more than I was expecting. Good deal for Dallas too, but NYR did VERY well here

I completely agree. Just didn't understand the throw-in returns. Fans should know it doesn't work like that. Regardless of situations of overpay like these.

This makes no sense and reeks of some sort of desperation by Nill.

Im shuddering at what the cost would have been had he not asked for a trade? Two 1sts and prospect?

I get RHD are in demand but this seems like a unneeded overpay by Dallas.

The funny part is that they aren't really in that high if demand. Certainly not fringe nhlers.

Lundkvist has two years left on his ELC. That’s why he got a first. If he lives up to his potential this won’t be a bad deal.

He was very highly thought of just a year ago. This doesn’t shock me tbh.

I don't know, I think they are. This feels like Nill thinking he needs to get ahead of the curve to get a cheap and young RHD before the cost is too high. I don't know, this just doesn't make sense to me. Like its not like Lundqvist is a sure thing. This is a gamble, why take such a high risk for so little certainty.

Absolute pillaging by the Rangers. I had assumed if he was going to the stars the price would have been delandrea. I'm not sure what Nill is thinking here. There is 99% chance rangers get back a better pick than they used for Lundkvist and his projection has only gone down.

His projection since the draft has actually gone down. The rangers made out like bandits here. If Lundkvist happens to work out I don't think Nill is a genius. He took his paycheck to the roulette table and got lucky.

The fit is what Dallas needed. Puck moving rhd. But nhl caliber should have been on the list. It looks like Nill is looking to the future for this team to compete. It's odd.

Actually he was very highly thought of 2-3 years ago. His projections peaked 3 years ago and have steadily fallen since. Some Dmen take a bit longer to develop but those types don't usually blossom into anything special.

Idk anything about the projections tbh. He was highly thought of when he arrived in NY.

Yup, he was. But he has continued to stumble. Just not very well suited for NHL. He has time to put things together I just don't know how far he can turn things around.

I’m not sure why ur writing him off lol. He’s been in North America for a year and he spent most of it with Patrick Nemeth lol.

I don't know, I think if you take the risk, you deserve whatever result you get. Not sure its fair to say if it doesn't work out, he's an idiot and if it does work out he's just lucky. I mean there is a reason everyone wanted Lundqvist but with that said you'd think Nill would have backed off like every other GM has. I mean....its not like his cost could possibly go up higher than it is now playing in the AHL.

Its definitely odd though, I agree 100%. Given that the cost was so high, there was absolutely no reason to make this deal right now.

Not a bad vet to be playing bottom pair with. The problem was his metrics. In that sort of role he should have had some success.

I'm not writing him off as an nhler. Just being realistic of what his new ceiling is. He was dominant as a 19yr old in the SHL. Since then he has tapered off.

Nemeth is horrendous. The idea that he isn’t terrible to play with is ridiculous
