Chicago can pick Foudy up on waivers in a couple of weeks if they want him, so he has very little value.

As a 2nd pairing RHD locked in at a good caphit and term Murphy would get more than a 2nd+ Bean. More like a 1st+.

Is 4.4M a good cap hit for a 2nd pair D-man? Especially one that has a bit of an injury history recently?

Chiarot, Gudbranson, and Manson got more than that this off-season. Murphy is better than all 3 of them.

Is he though? It's hard to tell on a bad Chicago Blackhawks team

His underlying metrics were good, at least last time I checked though that was admittedly a while back.

You put him in your #1 RD spot so you must think he's pretty damn solid.

That's why I'm hesitant to say he's worth a 1st rounder plus

Well let's put it this way. Its certainly not Boqvist or Peeke. Maybe they can get there one day, but neither is there today. Also, Murph's style is a great compliment to Werenski.

Personally don't want Murphy. I think we have better in house options with Peeke, Boqvist, Blankenburg, Jiricek and Cuelemans all growing into solid NHL players this year and next. We already have Guddy and don't need or want to deal with Murphy's term.

Ah yeah sorry Gudbranson was $4m you're right. But it's still a comparable. If Gudbranson is worth that much then Murphy is on a steal of a deal.

By contrast, I would love to have Murphy on the team, but I don't see a way to make it work for both sides. Chicago's ask, while justifiable and understandable, is still too high for us.
