Kane amp Seguin

Description
Not what I would do but just exploring it as an option.

In two years when Voracek's money goes away. Give $6m of it to KJ to put him at $7m AAV, and the other $2m to Marchenko and re-sign him at $3.5 AAV.

By then Jiricek, Cuelemans and Mateychuk will be up on the blue line playing on ELCs. Gavrikov will have to be allowed to go to UFA so his money can go to Peeke. If Gavrikov is re-signed, CBJ will have to find someone willing to give them picks for Peeke and Boqvist so that Jiricek and Cuelemans can play. Gudbranson won't be able to be traded but he'll provide essential veteran leadership on and off the ice for the young dmen.

I think CBJ are going to be in a situation similar to what NSH was when they traded Jones for Johansen. All these RHD and young dmen being forced to play 3rd pair, one or more is bound to get traded.

Kane and Seguin both have NMCs. I don't think anyone is looking at cbj as a real contender just yet. Maybe if they make the playoffs this season that changes the narrative but for now Kane and Seguin say no thanks.

I say we ride it out. Let’s see what this group can do. If we are good enough to make a top3 spot in the metro without Kane, I’d consider adding him as a rental but not seguin. too much money for to long with his injury history.

Also I don’t think Johnson won more than 30 percent of his draws in traverse city (prospect tournament), no way does he play top 6 center. Swap him and Jenner and move Johnson to left wing to form a kid line of
Johnson sillinger marchenko
That would be a blast to watch.

i dunno feel like seguin has negative value. that contract is almost 10 mil and is playing like a 6 mil player.

That is why CBJ aren't sending any major pieces back, and Dallas is retaining $1m for 5 years. He has been consistently good in the past. Playing with Gaudreau would be great for him. I view Seguin as an upgrade and the only 1C on this team. Maybe CBJ are ready to win right now, and maybe they don't want to wait another 3 years for Johnson to become that guy.

I’d be all over this but I doubt Segs waives. I’d love to have that cap hit gone, but I’m interested to see what Segs can do with a proper coach and some young talent. He doesn’t have the wheels any more due to injuries but he’s still a smart and talented player. Could easily see him becoming a Pavelski type player. Doubt he’s ever gonna be worth his cap hit again but getting some consistent production would be big

I don't think Seguin is an upgrade on Jenner at this point in his career. He used to be awesome, but he's just fallen apart, even when playing with quality players.

Yeah I second this notion... Seguin is a high skill player but he's lost quite a bit of speed these last few season as the NHL is getting faster.. not a good combo.

I'm not saying Seguin is better overall as a player, no way, but as a playmaking center he has an upgraded CPU and more hand-eye skill than Jenner. He could be rejuvenated by a change of scenery and being inserted into a solid room with elite leaders like Jenner, Voracek, Gudbranson, Kuraly, Werenski, Gavrikov and Nyquist. Happens all the time when guys get in the right situation and start working out harder and are pushed by the people around them. I think he and Benn have just grown complacent in Dallas and this change up could possibly benefit both teams.

I'm content to let someone else attempt that experiment, given the amount he's still being paid.

Agreed. Those 5 years of term are probably too big of a risk.

OOOFFFFF, 9.85 x 5 years (78M, 55M in signing bonuses... making this essentially buyout proof) Plus he's been a 50 point guy in the last 3 seasons.
I love his skill set and the idea of him being rejuvenated is very enticing. However that's a brutal contract combined with injury history and a significant performance decline....
I feel pretty confident predicting that the Stars are not going to be able to move that contract until the final two years, maybe...
