This is what I want to happen more than what I think will happen.
1st Line: I could see Appleton on this line, but when Perfetti played his best hockey while getting top line minutes, especially with Connor and PLD. This line shouldn't be broken up, if it is Bones should put Appleton on the line. Barron would get 3LW and Perfetti would be the 2RW if that was the case.
2nd Line: Because Schief isn't good defensively, I don't think he will get first line minutes. I could see him getting first line minutes if Bones is able to get Schiefele to adapt to playing defensively, similar to what he did with Benn and Seguin. But for now he gets 2nd line minutes. And yes, I know I have two offensive-minded players on this line with Ehlers, but I feel like Ehlers is too good to get 3rd line minutes. He should be playing in the top 2 lines at all times. The 2RW spot will be competition between Appleton and Barron. I have Barron getting it because he played really well while on the second line.
3rd Line: This line has been really bad since the Copp trade. Its meant to be defensive oriented but that idea hasn't worked out. Wheeler is demoted down to this line to add offense, plus he's not the same player he once was.
4th Line: I did 11F and 7D because there's a logjam with defensive prospects like Heinola, Samberg, Gawanke, Kovacevic, and Chisholm. For the 4th line, I think this is the season where Gus finally stays in the NHL. Bones will love his two-way game, and he's the perfect penalty kill center. Gagner should be a mentor to Gus and provide bottom-six leadership. Note: For the first nine games, I think Lucius will get a nine-game trial then play in the AHL to get adjusted to the smaller rinks. He played really well in the Young Stars classic, now its about getting adapted to the North American rinks.
1st D Pair: JoMo and DeMelo shouldn't be broken up. They played really well last year.
2nd D Pair: I put Heinola on the second pair because all of Heinola's 5 assists last year came while playing in the top 4. Solid offensive d-man with great hockey IQ and shot. I feel like if Heinola doesn't get a spot in the NHL this season, he will request a trade out of Winnipeg.
3rd D Pair: Samberg should be kept in the NHL, for some reason he played better in the NHL than he did in the AHL. I could see DeMelo swapped with Schmidt to get a shutdown pair, something the Jets lacked last season.
7th D: This is competition between our young prospects like Gawanke, Chisholm, Kovacevic, and Capobianco. Gawanke looked good in the AHL last year and this gives us another RD in the NHL. I also could see Kovacevic as well, but I think Gawanke is a better option. But if Lucius does get the nine-game trial, Gawanke will be in the taxi squad until the trial is done.
Goalie: As we all know, the starter is very obvious. The backup role is very interesting however. I think Bones will put Rittich, but it's clearly a battle between him, Berdin, and Salminen. Based on how Salminen played, I think a year in the AHL would benefit him well. Him and Holm should split the time in the AHL. Berdin played decent enough in the AHL to get a long look in the NHL. Also has experience playing in the KHL, where he played well.
Trades: Because of our logjam at LD, Dillon is the odd man out and should be traded. Stanley also has ideally become a bust for us, I never really liked how he played last season. Needs a fresh start, though I don't know whether Carolina is the right team. Dillion would be traded to any team, as said in the details I picked by random using a number generator. Number was 6 so it was surprisingly Carolina.
Don't think the Canes would be interested in Stanley right now. Not sure who will be at that price. I'll defer to "any team" on Dillon. I know how touchy people can be about that.
I love the idea of the jets shipping out D to make room for Heinola, Gawanke and Samberg but there is no way the canes give up a conditional first rounder for Stanley. The guys value is at best a 3rd right now

Yea its hard to figure out his value. Maybe a conditional 3rd instead?

Conditional 4th based on games played. If he hits the games player condition, it upgrades to a third. In no way is he worth more than that.
As for Dillon, unless there is half retention, I can’t see the Canes doing that. Bear and a 3rd for Dillon half retained is something the Canes might consider.
