Dermott would get scratched before Schenn without question.

Bear was never a 7th in Carolina, but okay

If DeHaan signs, he is. Coghlan is better than him and there's only room for 1 guy on the right side.

Believe it or not, that makes him the seventh defenceman

Coghlan isn't better than Bear. De Haan's PTO is to do with Gardiner not Bear. Bear is still firmly on the bottom pairing right now

Rathbone isn't getting traded unless it's a huge upgrade not a downgrade.

Then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and happy at training camp because if Bear is as good as you say he is and Coghlan is as good as I say he is, you're going to have several great bottom pairing options! Will be fun to watch

So you want Calgary to trade a LD, that they don't need for... another LD? Nope. We have Mackey still waiting. If we trade Valimaki, it's in a package for a top 6 foeard to help with our weakness

It's a sneaky good trade for Calgary, I don't see why Vancouver would do it though, I think Calgary would accept just based on Rathbone being waivers exempt and less money than Valimaki, if Vancouver truly believes that Valimaki cold be a 6D there, I could see it making sense but if that's the case Vancouver should just wait for him to hit waivers.

What? Bear was never the 7th D man. If you think he was, you're wrong. When he's been healthy, he's played.

You make statement which are so direct that you blur the lines between what we know and what we don’t. We know that Bear said he was injured and we also know that Bear did not dress for any playoff games nor the final regular season games leading up to the playoffs. So what is true, he was injured or he was the 7th d last playoffs?

Here is what I will tell you definitively - Bear is not “firmly” on the bottom pairing. He’s penciled in now, but could be outplayed by a number of players (Coghlan, Chatfield, DeHaan, others…)

Bear is firmly on the bottom pairing. Without Gardiner, he's the obvious 2nd PP QB. Coghlan might be as good, but Bear gets the edge due to familiarity with the system. Bear started last year on Carolina's top pairing. Chatfield isn't even in the same stratosphere, and de Haan may make the team. He'll take the Gardiner spot with Jake out for the year,

Bear fractured his ankle taking a puck off it against Calgary in December, if you go back to the game and watch it on NHL.tv, it's in the final few seconds. That's on top of long term covid he said he struggled with the entire year. Covid is unconfirmed, the ankle we're sure of. When he was healthy, he played. When he could physically stand, he played. He didn't dress in the Boston series because he couldn't walk. He kept trying and couldn't put weight on his foot. This is all paraphrased from his exit interview.

Bear talk is too polarizing for me to spend too much time on it. He’s a 5/6/7 defenseman with some defensive issues. Hope he does well, but he’s not a top 4 defenseman especially not on the Canes. A waste of time to argue about it.

I know you don’t need him. However he’s statistically by far the most dominant D prospect in the AHL. That trade is an absolute steal for Calgary
