Created by: UpsideDownQue
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2022
Published: Sep. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yes I know Im probably missing some and probably have some on here that are very unlikely to be moved

Just a list of guys who could be available if the Avs want to add a C, not all of them are necessarily better than the Avs current 2C. If they are performing well they could just roll into the playoffs with Rodrigues/Newhook at 2C

Henrique may be available this TDL, and Anaheim would consider retaining salary for the right price. What would you offer for a 50% retained Henrique?

It really depends on how he performs and how many other Cs are available. Its tough to put a value out there right now

I don't think Gourde is available, seems like a glue guy in Seattle.

Not sure any team would take on PLD with the risk of him wanting to go to MTL.

Haula and Suter are 3C at best, so, can't see Colorado going for either as they need a true 2C to compliment Mack.

PLD is still an RFA next summer, so they could trade for him for one playoff run then flip him to MTL in the offseason. As long as the difference in value between the WPG and MTL trades are reasonable

Agreed on Haula and Suter. I was just trying to lower the standards a bit so the list wouldnt be too short

assuming similar number to last season, 0.73 pts/game and 55% in the faceoff circle, at 50% retained that's 2,912,500 in cap hit, and you would get an entire season next year at the same 2.9 mil cap hit.

a run and flip might be hard with PLD, Colorado loses all leverage and if PLD throws a hissy fit and refuses to play.

I honestly think Dvorak and Henrique are the best options for Colorado, both have reasonable time and cap hit on their contracts, and in 50-ish point territory on relatively weak offensive teams, both would be elevated assuming Colorado doesn't do a top heavy line of Land-Mack-Rant

Well they wouldnt trade for him if he refuses to play lol - if hes willing to play for WPG he should be willing to play for COL for half a season if he knows hes going to be traded to his desired team later that year anyway

1st + sweetener maybe? Im thinking something similar to the Dvorak trade - he has a higher cap hit but also had more term and is younger. I cant think of any better comparables right now

2023 1st (late round pick), and a couple prospects or a prospect and Rodrigues if a roster player is required coming back. I feel like everyone else is locked into their main role. After trading away Helleson and Barron plus Newhook and Byram becoming roster players, the prospect cupboard is a lot of Bs and Cs. Olausson is our best, but I wonder how willing the Avs would be to give him up though. I'm thinking guys like Kaut, Behrens, Foudy and Stienburg could be on the move but probably with more value as a couple of them being moved rather than just one. If that doesn't cut it, Avs may dip into the '25 draft pick pool.

Maybe the 2023 1st, Stienburg (point per game centre in 2nd year of NCAA) and Rodrigues (barring some decent production)? Prospect, pick and roster player is often a go to package when I do these.

LOL with what capspace? COL wont be able to afford any of those guys. Even less if they sign Gally.

Good luck with that. As hard as it is to believe, Colorado will probably enter the playoffs with Rodrigues as 2C and it ain't good. They can still trade Girard for Dvorak though smile

Never know, maybe Newhook makes a big jump this year...I still think he has a lot of untapped potential. To your point though, they are probably going to need to ship out Compher if they make a move

They may go into the playoffs with ERod at 2C but it wont be because they dont have cap to add anyone. If anything the Avs are one of the contenders in the best cap position to add at this years deadline.

Just for a rough estimation of deadline cap space:
-assuming a pre TDL daily projected cap hit of 80.75M
-assuming 186 days in the season, 146 before the deadline, 40 after

(146 days)/(186 days)*(80.75M)+(40 days)/(186 days)*(Post TDL cap hit) = 82.5M

Post TDL cap hit = (82.5M-146/186*80.75M)*186/40 = 88.8M

The Avs can have a daily cap hit of up to ~88.8M from the deadline onwards and still fit under the 82.5M cap over the full season. That means they can add around 8M in AAV at the deadline

They have to account for bonuses (or take overages next season), but its very doable to add any of these guys via trade at the 2023 deadline

I could see Detroit moving Suter with retention at the deadline. A 2nd or 3rd round pick would likely get it done, depending on his stats at the time of the deal.

I could see Dallas being out of a playoff spot, but I don’t see them being out enough for Nill to sell
