Sorry man, that contract is rough. Going to cost a lot more than (2) 2nds if you want to rid yourselves of that.

Lucic retained and foligno are kinda the same thing. Why the picks? Nostalgia picks?

The whole, “here are two seconds because i don’t want to move a first,” thing isnt going to work in the flat cap NHL.

Flat cap is over, expectation is cap will be around 100M within 5 years.

What does this solve for Edmonton? If Ryan doesn't make the team can be waived to remove his cap. Smith is on ltir removing him does nothing since still starting the year on ltir because of klef. Adding them to the trade doesn't justify raising the asking price since it makes no difference keeping or moving. Betting since cap hits are fairly similar between purposed dadonov retention and foegele Edmonton would sooner just stand pat with foegele since he's expected to be more physical and bring an element lost with kass and Archie out of town. Easy pass from Edmonton.

Why give up 3 picks to dump Anderson, when you can keep him? 76.744999+5.3=82.044999 and 82.044999<82.5

Why on earth would Boston do that?

The 1.1 saved does not get them under the cap.

The picks are more valuable than Looch.

Both players are 20 point 200 hit type players.

Foligno better skater better defensively

B’s have no interest in Looch.

Foligno blocks with NTC.

It’s laughable.

legit question: why does it cost the same amount for Calgary to move 1x$5.25M of Milan Lucic (10-11-21 last year) that it costs Montreal to dump 5x$6.5M of Brendan Gallagher (7-17-24 last season)?

Sure. But you’re dealing with today, not five years from now. The price of dumping contracts is pretty determined.

Not when the contract extends over 5 years.

Meaning serviceable players who can play in the middle 6 will fall into average salary as they get older, players like Anderson and Gallagher if they can maintain their current pace through the life of their contracts, actually become better deals. Maintaining the pace isn't the issue with them, it's just their ceiling isn't much higher than where it is.

If assumed growth does reach $100M, then Anderson, a potential 20 goal scorer over the 5 year contract goes from 6.7% of the cap to 5.5%. again, meaning you have a 20 goal scorer, and 1.2% cap extra to spend elsewhere in Y5.

Gallagher is more of a risk, because of his style of play, but put him in the right scenario and he can actually flourish (albeit Chicago in this case is not the right example)
