He's worth at least 2x that AAV on a 1 year deal so the Oilers did great in that sense.

I can't help but question why Edmonton is doing all these 1 year deals. Next years cap probably only goes up $1 million or slightly more; the big jump is 2 years away per Bill Daly.

Skinner, Bouchard, Puljujarvi, and now McLeod are all on expiring deals and the Oilers don't have much coming off the books next year.

They still need to shed salary this year but next year is going to get worse.

Laughs in Dubas and Sandin

You do realize Dubas is winning that fight right?

As by not giving in and making Sandin make him self look more and more like a fool he is winning

Sandin will eventually give in and sign the deal Dubas laid out out

Gross did this once before and in the end we got WN on a steal of a contract.

They're icing the best possible lineup this season and pushing next year's problem to next year.

Next year things will be different:
- $1M cap rise
- $2.25M in dead cap comes off the books
- Ryan and Janmark deals expire ($2.5M)
- players with 1 year left (Barrie, Foegele) will be easier to move
- several prospects will be ready for NHL full time
- some of those RFA's won't have arbitration rights next summer, so they'll get cheap 1 year bridges
- the LTIR contracts (Klefbom, Smith, Koekkoek) drop off, giving the flexibility and the ability to accrue cap space in season

I don't think there's any mystery to it. Just more of the same.

Do you think the $4 million cleared up will get them anyone else besides Bouchard tho?

Sandin contract situation is Dermott 2.0 , the only bright spot for Sandin is that he knows Muzzin and Gio are fading fast. But as it stands this season, Sandin is 4th Ld.

Same as Dermott, Sandin should be getting a under 900k 1 yr deal signed before the season starts.

Oh, please no one try to claim Sandin can be Rd.... zero chance of success there.

And Nylander's contract was not a huge "W", he was projected to be around $6 mill (Larkin and Ehlors $), he unrealisicly asked for $8.5 (Draisaitl and Stamkos $), well $6.9 was too much and the 1st year of that contract was a complete write off because of him missing camp.

Nylander's contract is a "L". more so when it showed Matthews and Marner how weak the Leafs negoitating team are.

Well, the first 3 items I mentioned free up $5.75M, and they'll probably only need $3M more for Bouchard. Is it enough for all the guys? Probably not. There will be trades, I would imagine. But there's no reason to make them today if they make the team worse this year. Deal with next year next summer.
