Captain Serious comes to NYR at TDL to give playoff-caliber bottom 6 depth
Another move might be required to make salaries fit at TDL, it will be close

Need cheap depth to survive the 2023 cap crunch
Othmann, Cuylie, and Garand are already factored as part of the 2023 roster, about untouchable
Robertson is also on track for the 2023 roster and Sykora is unlikely to move
Other prospects and futures available for trades
NYR will have cap space for one bigger move at TDL
Options
1. Might have enough on the current roster
2. Toews or similar for bottom 6 playoff experience depth and to tighten the roster
3. Kane, Pastrnak, or similar if a big jolt for the playoffs is in order
Trades
NYR
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)
CHI
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (COL)

Unless toews pulls a giroux and will only go to the rangers it's gonna cost more than a 3rd to get him. Prices get crazy at the deadline. His reputation alone will command atleast a 2nd

That is all I would pay for that role, there are other players. I see the salary as lowering the cost. Toews play has been way off and if his value is a depth piece ...

Toews and Kane are most likely going to choose their teams similar to Giroux

Toews isn't who he used to be but his leadership alone is worth a guaranteed 2nd. What he brings on the ice is worth another 2nd.
Chicago receives NYR 2023 2nd + NYR 2024 2nd. New York receives Toews. It'd be a disgrace to trade him for anything less.
Chicago won't be dealing away their captain who's given everything to that organization for scraps. He'd be re-signed to a reasonable cap hit if they can't get close to what he's worth.

I like your reasoning. It is all speculation now, he could well go for that depending on how well he plays and how many suiters.
In your estimation what level is he playing at (1c, 2c, etc)?

That retention slot would likely be worth at least a third. They have other players to trade that they could retain on that would probably give them a better return. Toews I think has fallen off quite a bit but this year he has alot to play for, his pride plus a new contract next season. I think he's going to be motivated this year and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes two seconds to acquire him.

If there are other options for trade candidates, then that could decide things because Chicago could also be in the position that they have to retain in order to move him.
His quickness seemed to be really going, maybe an unknown injury or other explainable reason.

Agreed, I just don't think they move him just to move him either though.

Do people legit think he's not walking away from the **** show that is going to be the hawks for the next 2-3 years?

Toews would be a hell of a 3C on a playoff team. He’s not a 1C anymore but unfortunately has to keep playing that role on a weak Chicago team

Don't worry NYR doesn't want him.
