Giving the young guys a chance

Created by: zachjohnston
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2022
Published: Sep. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While Marchy, Chuckie and Grzelyck sit on the IR, this gives chances for Jim Montgomery and the Bruins to test out their younger guys for starting positions when the IR guys return.

Achan and Studnicka are two young guys I would've loved to see more last year, Steen and Frederic have more NHL experience.

How the team does while we wait for Marchand, McAvoy and Grzelyck to return, will determine the direction this franchise goes.

Unfortunately, in this case, anyone who is a bottom 6, pending UFA with no MC, you're gone, meaning Nosek, Wagner, and Reilly are out.

Both deals are essentially cap dumps so BOS will need to be giving assets, not getting them- particularly in the case of the WPG deal.

Can't see WPG biting on that one...Chisholm is one of our top defensive prospects outside of Heinola & Samberg and looked great in his limited time up with the Jets last year. Outside of that fact, I'm not sure why WPG would be paying a 3rd to acquire 2 cap dumps?

Nah. A cap dump is moving a player neither team wants with a bad cap hit.

Moving salary is moving a player that still has value but the team moving them can’t afford. The team moving them can’t get full value as teams know their situation. But don’t have to pay to move them.

Nobody here is a dump.

Jets decline purely from lack of value or need.

5th for Nosek is reasonable but Does not make sense for Van.

I disagree. My conception of a cap dump is any player that a team has to move in order to be cap compliant or within a reasonable range of the cap to still be able to make moves.

Wagner is definitely a dump, albeit not a big one and, given his last season, Nosek can easily be argued as one. In Reilly's case, he has value but, like with Foegele in EDM, it's not proportionate to his cap hit in the present market. At best, you'd find a team that'd be in the exact right scenario and, as such, would be looking at maybe a 5th in return- not a quality prospect like Chisholm alongside a pick swap in favour of BOS. Further, they've got plenty of L shot D and I don't think they're likely to be competitive this year.
