I don’t think PHI is trading their first now under any circumstances lol

If you are trying to get a pick like that you uave to be offering up someone of Jones or Karlsson caliber. Duchene was also over a PPG center when he was traded. This offer doesn't even start a conversation

Philly could either be a good team or a bad one so i think the only way the do it is if the pick has protection.... the details of the protection will be the deciding factor for sure... top 10, top 15, or even top 20

The biggest issue is....you gave nothing of value in return for the 1st round. Heck if JVR has a good season, he could be a good trade piece for the out of playoffs Flyers at TDL.

Trading Bill Hicke for the 1st rounder was robbery by the Sam Pollock. But the genius of Pollock was giving a Ralph Backstrom to Kings, and helping them so the Kings would stay ahead of the Oakland in the standings

Never underestimate Fletcher, that man has no idea what he's doing, what year it is, or where he's going.

Normally that would be the case but the cost of taking JVR is a decently high 1st rounder (12-15 range)

There's no world where Philly should be thinking about moving their 2023 1st. They were a bad team last year, and the only big move they made this summer was overpaying for Tony DeAngelo. That's a lottery pick barring some sort of miracle. A middle-6 C and a B-tier prospect at one of the few positions they actually have young depth at isn't enough to pry that 1st out of Philly.

The Flyers finished only 6 points clear of the Habs last year. You bet your bottom dollar if they found some reason to trade this year's 1st, there will be protections on it.

They don't need to dump JVR's cap though; if anything, they'll trade him double-retained at the deadline for a mid-tier asset.

Lol not when you are cap compliant which Philly is. JVR will probably instead be sold at the deadline for roughly a 2nd

Add Caufield and the Flyers start to consider it.

No team that finishes in the bottom 10 the previous year will ever trade their unprotected 1st the following year, ever again. You have to find a team that was good previously and is confident they'll be good again, only to have a disaster season. (Habs hoping Florida has this) That's the only way you'll luck into a high end pick again. The past two times it happened both those teams were coming off solid playoff runs. (Ott & SJ) Philly not only hasn't been good lately, they're practically destined for a low finish again with all the injuries they have. Not even Fletcher is dumb enough to do this.

That is all besides the point that Dvorak and Struble doesn't even get you a protected 1st along with JVR. Philly no longer needs to shed cap. They have Ellis and now Couturier on LTIR. They need to ADD cap, not cut it. (If they want to maximize the LTIR relief as to be good this year)

Lots of personality in the "old days" and the players didn't wear helmets. Charlie Finley got a lot criticism but he had a great run with his Oakland As,
