Don’t think addibg Pageau is a move that Hugues and Gorton would do. Especially if there is no salary goiing back. It make absolutely no sense for them.

Also the fact that Montreal is trying to get younger, aren't competing now and have lots of centers already. Makes no sense for them. There's a good chance they'd beat that Varlamov contract though.

Varlamov is definitely going to leave the isles to be a starter next season so it’s not up to them

How the hell do u know that lol. He’s 35 and he may just want to stay in NY anyway lol. Wouldn’t shock me if he signed on to be Soroky’s backup. He would still get 25-30 games a year.

goaltenders have been getting overpaid for the past 3 seasons in free agency. Don't expect that to change. NJ, Ottawa , Buffalo, Vegas,Carolina , Montreal could all be in the Market for a goaltender. I think he'd rather take 4-4.5 mill x 2 and start over 2-2.5 mill with the isles and be the backup to Sorokin.

Varlamov is a UFA next season, and its hard to imagine that teams with goaltending needs wouldn't ante up more than 2.4 mil.

Maybe. It just depends on if he wants to leave. I’m not convinced he does.

I agree, but he’s not a kid and it wouldn’t shock me if he stays put.

It’s not about being a kid lol - these guys have pride. Money + pride = new destination for Varlamov. I don’t think he’s attached to NY to the point where he’d leave 3 mill on the table.

It’s not uncommon for vets to finish their career in a smaller role. That’s all im saying.
