Personally I’d role with the cost controlled Newhook and keep the pick. 7x7 is a pretty steep price for a guy with one 60 pt seasons.

To be fair to Horvat, in years past he did not have a great supporting cast. Comments on Canucks for years were that Bo needed decent wingers. If he plays with Garland and Podkolzin this year he should hit 30 goals again.

I agree with this as I have no horse in the race

Doesn’t make sense for the Avs

I agree. A 7m 2C is really hard to squeeze. It works, but it relies on Byram and Meyers taking a combined $6.5m; having 3 ELC's (2 third liners and a Dman); 3 <$1m depth signings; and rolling a 21 man roster. Seems a bit too ambitious.

I’m not questioning Horvat I think he is really good, but given COL’s cap situation I personally think Newhook at 50pts cost controlled and a 1st in a deep draft is worth more.

Newhook should only get better and he fits to a T how this Avalanche roster is built.

Can't underestimate how important it is having good players on ELC's in your lineup especially with the high priced talent the Avalanche have. Use the 2023 first to draft another one.

Exactly. You could argue that the Avs core is MacK, Makar, Mikko, Landy, Nichushkin, Byram and Newhook and the importance of the last 2 being kinda cost controlled can’t be overstated.

Interesting that Bednar mentioned in his presser yesterday that he would "ideally" want to play Newhook between Landeskog and Nichushkin. Talk about putting a young C in a position to succeed. Those two would help him defensively and with faceoffs a tonne.

Absolutely! Landeskog could shepherd him much the way he did MacKinnon once MacK took over the 1C role, it’s one of the reasons I’ve always thought Landeskog is kinda underrated.
