That does not get Hanifin.

Don’t think you get a pair of 2nds when Grizz is healthy. 2nd a low end prospect about the max.

Milano and Sprong have PTOs already.

Lundkvist just fetched a 1st + & is an unproven prospect a few years out from draft. Hanafin is not much older & established top 4 (borderline top 2). Smith at this point is middle of the pack 3rd liner & not a need on Calgary. Would need WAAAY more to make that trade.

A Reilly dump probably costs more than that. Either way, CHI declines.

He’s a perfectly serviceable player at that dollar amount. I don’t think he’s a dump, just expendable in boston.

Maybe. But CHI isn't in the market for LHD. You have to find a team with the need for a player like him and that thinks he improves their roster and can afford him. CHI is not looking to improve their roster and they are WAY overloaded with defensemen to sort through right now. The last thing they need to do is have yet another veteran dman taking up a roster spot.

Agree. Just don’t think it’s a dump is all.

Well, again, MAYBE he isn't a dump. But if BOS is more desperate for the cap and roster space > than there is interest from other teams in acquiring him = BOS might have to resort to paying someone to take him. The flat cap is squeezing teams in a way that is making trade values very irregular right now.

Well yes. I think the interest from the league would be solid. No ones looking to do boston any favors by paying up, but i think he’ll get a third or a fourth

With McCabe injured. Caleb Jones-Jack Johnson-Riley Stillman is your left side. Reilly is better than all of them.

You actually should be interested. You can get him cheap and eventually flip him for more than what you paid for him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Better than all of them? That is very much debatable. Considering Johnson, Stillman, and Jones cap hits and what they provide, I personally don't think Reilly is much of an improvement, if any. And we have plenty of young prospects fighting for NHL roster spots as it is, and some of them deserve it. Jones and Stillman are significantly younger (in hockey years), have steadily improved, have significantly lower cap hits, and if they were to be even marginally better this year under our new coaching staff, they would easily have more trade value than Reilly. Plus, CHI wouldn't have to retain on them at the TDL. Which, retention slots are another thing that is valuable to CHI right now. We already have too much trade bait as it is. And again, CHI is NOT trying to improve, they aren't buying, therefore they should NOT be interested in Reilly unless they are receiving some sort of assets to take on his contract.

Those 3 are nothing more than 3rd pair type. Reilly is not much more than that but he has played 2nd pair minutes at times for multiple teams.

It’s not about Chi getting better now it’s about turning something into nothing.

Reality is while Reilly’s value is a mid round pick, to acquire him now under the circumstances would take far less. A low end prospect who likely never makes the NHL, or a career AHLer like Sikura, or even future considerations. Eventually you flip him for the 3rd he’s worth when the market is ripe. It’s a no lose situation really. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No worries, Sweeney couldn’t manage a lemonade stand. He will hold onto him due to injuries to Grizz and Mac and shed salary elsewhere making the team weaker.

So far, yeah, you're probably right. But Stillman and Jones could still be a lot more than that. They are both still young enough and early enough in their careers to take some big steps. They are 24 and 25 years old and have both barely played 100 games. But again, I can almost guarantee CHI isn't interested in expending assets for a player like Reilly, or any player for that matter.

You can argue Reilly's value to you are blue in the face, but Chicago is in the middle of a scorched earth rebuild. We have plenty of pieces to sell. We have plenty of bodies on D. The Hawks don't need Reilly. Find another team to haggle with over his value. It is not there for the Hawks in the current state of the team/rebuild.
