I was just wondering this when I was looking at FLA’s roster.

I know a bunch of teams are still over the cap, but I know a number of those teams also have LTIR, roster players who will be buried in the minors, etc.

Was just curious which teams still actually *need* to move someone, given their rosters.

Just browsing some rosters right now

EDM and FLA might have to play with a 21 man roster, but i dont think, right now, a team *needs* to clear cap to start the year. FLA when Duclair comebacks and thats it

edit : oh and also BOS when their injuried players comeback ; they'll be over the cap by 2m

Tavares out for 3-4 weeks should take care of Toronto's problems in the short term.

It's likely another player will go on the IR. It's most likely someone is sent down on waivers, but any player battling a nagging injury could be put on IR worst case.

Over the cap under certain situations, or really short roster to manage:
Toronto - when fully healthy they are about $3 million over the cap; hard to get under unless a 19 man roster.
Florida - can run a 20 man roster with Duclair on LTIR and be compliant; when fully healthy they are between $4 and $5 million over the cap (23 man roster), or $1.8 million over with 20 man roster.
Edmonton - can run a 20 man roster and be compliant; but if full roster then $2.4 million over the cap.
Dallas - only if Robertson signs a deal that exceeds $7.2 million AAV.
Carolina - only if Pacioretty & Gardiner are healthy, then $2 million over the cap

Manageable over the cap:
Boston - when fully healthy they will be about $1 million over the cap with a 23 man roster; able to stay below with 21 player roster.
