Dumba won’t be worth half that, and giving away Jokiharju to give him that is dumb as hell.

An AGM that doesn't sign RFA Rasmus Asplund is an illegitimate AGM.

Dumba's market value this past season was literally $5.7M for both his offensive and defensive contribution numbers. While a player like Ristolainen was at $1.3M. But that's not even the current market rate at which these players have been signing for these last three years.

He'll get that or more out on the open market. With a FA class that includes Klingberg, Severson, Weeger, and Graves. Outside of those first three, Dumba will be the likely 4th best d-man available on the market.

He'll get paid.

Especially if Ristolainen, a much worse defenseman, can get $5.4M from Philly. There is absolutely no way a defenseman of Dumba's caliber will get less then him.

Furthermore, the Wild's defensive prospect pool is such with Lambos, Faber, and Addison plus others. That we would have no desire or interest in Jokiharju, so we wouldn't waste the 2nd for him. Even if it's fair value for him, right now.

Dumba is damaged good after his injuries. Buffalo should not want him, especially at that price.

From a offensive defenseman perspective.

Yes, he is damaged goods. He'll never be the potential Norris caliber type offensive defenseman he could of been pre-pectoral injury. That's true.

But he isn't an offensive defenseman type of defenseman anymore. He's changed his game to adapt and stay in the NHL post injury. His defensive skills have improved quite a bit since then to the point where he's legitimately a TWD now.

He plays the heavy, physical, gritty style of game while still capable of moving the puck and capability to carry it into the offensive zone, all in a veteran defenseman package with leadership qualities, that the Sabers specifically have been craving for their blue line for quite some time.

That *damaged goods* is tough enough to play out the last 5 games of the regular season and through a 6 game series against the Blues with 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung on top of it last season.

He isn't the liability you think or claim him to be.

The only knocks on his level of play since his pectoral injury is his occasional penchant for making a bone headed play, a trait all offensive defenseman... former or otherwise... all have. And he isn't the offensive weapon he once was. But again, his defensive improvement has largely offset that reduction.

I haven’t seen that defensive game from him, but I’d have to see him play more often than I’ve had the chance to in order to evaluate properly. Lately I’ve only seen some playoffs, and if he was in the lineup against Buffalo. Minnesota doesn’t get a lot of nationally televised games.
