He's not Cernak I'll say that at least, but I still don't like this trade. Pretty much a bunch of pieces the jackets won't need going forward

Agreed. For CBJ to move him right now, it’d be a ‘23 1st, Holl, Niemela. That’s about what I’d call a “realistic” overpay on him.

But yeah, I don’t think they’re inclined to move him. He’s definitely a defensive-D type, but that’s what CBJ need. I think calling him the next Cernak is a bit optimistic. I think he definitely has the ceiling of a strong-2nd pair guy, which would be great. He bulked up this off-season, so it’ll be cool to see how his game is this year.

There's no real value in there for the Jackets, considering what we already have.

I like how you don’t see him as a cernak type but want niemela a first and holl for him, if you don’t think he’s not as good then he’s def not worth that package

Player value is not just relative to market, but relative to the team. Every team has an example or two of a guy who would need an over-pay in order to be pried off the roster.

Here, that is a 1st, and a prospect. Wouldn't exactly say TOR's pipeline is great, we don't need more Fs/ F prospects, plus we are taking on Holl, a guy I frequently see ya'll wanting to move on from. He may not be the next Cernak, but, like I said, "a strong 2nd pair guy" is still a very valuable player.

Eight months / half a season of development and roster changes tend to do that when you are talking about a 23 year old who was in the middle of their first professional season.

So 4 months of hockey and CLB has adding Gudbranson, Blankenburg, and Jiricek (more RD depth) has actually increased his value for you?

I will wait to see it, but I would be hard pressed to see Larsen not having Gudbranson and Boqvist in the top 4 pushing Peeke to the bottom pairing.

I love the player and get why CLB like him but going from Robertson as fair value to now needing a 1st + is a bit of a stretch. But all good, entitled to your own opinion

Hey man, I get it. I've probably got rose-colored glasses.

FWIW, I'm just not that high on Robertson. The injury history concerns me, and even then what he can reasonably be seen to turn into (maybe a M6 winger), CBJ already have in abundance for the near-future. Playing time opportunities would only be more limited with CBJ.

And with Peeke's playing time, we'll see. He put on a lot of muscle (clocked in at about 212), so there is some hope/expectation his defensive game should take a step going into year two. That being said, CBJ don't have a clear option at 1RD, so you're right that Guds and Boqvist will probably get a look. Boqvist struggled last year in that role, so if he can take the spot and keep it, that's a problem I'm happy with. Gudbranson is still likely a 3RD.
