Would be a really smart pick up IMO. Would greatly boost their special teams because of FO's. He's not the fastest guy anymore but he's still got great hockey IQ. And playing him with 2 defensively sound players like Nuke and Lehkonen would be great

I'd be open to it if it didn't include our future goalie

Aves won’t be trading for a No. 2C.

    MacKinnon
    Newhook
    Rodrigues
    Meyers

    Don’t need a 2C

Doesn't have to. Take Annunen out and hawks probably still accept. I think Toews value is around a 1st. Deal wouldn't be till the deadline I assume so we will have seen how he's been performing

I'd do Kaut and a '25 2nd. Not sure Toews is worth a 23 1st or any 1st really. See how the year goes I guess

Players who can't skate fast stick out like sore thumbs in Colorado and don't last long these days. The Soderberg and Nemeth reunion tour was a great example of this, though they're obviously inferior to Toews talent-wise.

Haha good because kaut is going to hit waivers here soon so we wouldn't have him at the deadline either

Value right now is probably a 2nd in my opinion. Maybe 1st or 2nd + prospect if he has a good season.

Avs wouldn’t trade 90% of those pieces for toews. He’s not worth anything near that

Toews sucks. Even at 50% retained who in the world wants to pay a big price for a guy coming off a 37pt season, who has been awful for years, and all you are doing is paying for a name not an actual player. “Yeah but CHI suck” yeah they suck because of how bad he has been. I wouldn’t trade any of that for him.

You’d be open to skipping the best draft since 2015 to add a guy that has been living off of his reputation for years, at even 50% retained has a big cap hit, is slow, has not made a real positive difference in shot metrics since 17-18, and who’s degradation in play is one of the reasons CHI is so bad? Because I’m not trading the 23 1st unless I get a player locked up for multiple seasons that plays in the top 6, not some dude who is going to look like a boat anchor trying to keep up.

That's a terrible take, you clearly don't watch the Hawks. Toews was out the season prior to last after dealing with a immunity issue from long covid he caught in the 2019/2020 end of season. By the end of last season he was coming back into form. Furthermore, if you evaluate Toews on points alone, you clearly missed the point of his game. Even at his peak, he was never a huge point producer but still one of the best centers in the league. He's always been a two way defensive center that is a lock at the dot and lock on the PK before being a point producer, and although he's not the 1C player he once was, he is still very solid and a excellent 3C and decent 2C.

Pat Veerbek isn't doing Joe Sakic any favors, It will cost more than a 4th round pick to retain $2,625,000 on Jonathan Toews. At least a 3rd if not closer to a 2nd rounder.

I'm very interested to see how Toews looks this season after everything he's dealt with the past two seasons. I think he still has enough to be worth a 2nd and a prospect, but from stretches of last season he also looked like he had negative value because of his contract.

I’m not trading a 1st for him at all. He is washed. COL is now at a point where if they are trading 1st rd picks they need to be for guys that augment the core and aren’t straight aging rentals. They don’t need his cup experience, he’s slow compared to the Avs, he hasn’t been good defensively for years, and his offfense is at an all time low. Paying premium assets for guys like him closes a championship window so much faster.

Avs pass on Toews at that price. Should pass on him at any price with the stuff that went on in Chicago.
