the sens shouldn’t be giving up sanderson in a chychrun deal, he has the potential to be just as good

Unreal how bad this is for Ottawa. Ottawa is reportedly a hard no on trading Shane Pinto for Chychrun, why would they trade Jake Sanderson?

This deal is horrendous for Ottawa. Why trade a future top 5 d-man in the league.

A Chychrun deal is…

Zaitsev, Formenton, a prospect or two and a pick.

I feel like the people who really like Chychrun have never rooted for a team with good defenseman. I’m not trying to be a dick, but he’s the most overrated d man I’ve ever seen. Dude scored a lot in 2020-2021, but it wasn’t sustainable. At the end of the day he isn’t elite at either end of the ice. Maybe he’s a #2 d man, but I’m not even sold on that. He’s injury prone and tbh I don’t think he’s a great skater either. Second coming of OEL and not in a good way.

Why would an Oilers/Penguins fan make a proposal for the Sens?

The Sens simply wouldn't trade Jake Sanderson for many players in this league and Chychrun is certainly not one of them

Not to mention the assets added on top of Sanderson lol

Agree. Take out Sanderson. He is not available anyway.

Formenton is not the guy the Coyotes would want. It is reported they asked for Pinto. Greig would be the next ask.

They're not moving Greig either.

Jarventie, Ostapchuk, JBD, Thomson, Boucher, '23 1st, '24 1st are the options. Arizona needs to pick two and if they'll take Zaitsev then add another 2nd. Very simple.

Sens are most likely as high on Greig as they are on Pinto. I know I am

I have been talking about it for 18 months now. Basically since I saw Greig play his first 4 AHL games at 18 y/o

Not sure why it's taking so much time for the hockey world to catch up on Greig (not talking about you), but it kinda reminds me how Josh Norris was always super underrated, until he started scoring 1 goal per 2 games... Well, funny thing is he still is underrated by many lol

All of these assets won't be available for Chychrun :

Chabot
Sanderson
Stutzle
Norris
Batherson
Tkachuk
Pinto
Greig
DeBrincat

Sogaard too because he's pretty much the goalie of the future and now they have traded Gustavsson

Zub too because they need to improve RD and he's by far their best RHD

Tyler Boucher because they gambled hard on the pick and right now he doesn't have anywhere near the value of where they took him. They have to hope he breaks out into a legit prospect. It would be stupid to trade him now, 1 year after the pick

Giroux, because he was brought as a veteran who will probably retire in his hometown

I think everyone else would be available

Sure, I can explain... Of course, everyone would be available if Cale Makar was suddenly available... there's basically no 100% untouchables for any team, everybody would be available "at the right price"

BUT you're looking at core players here :

Tkachuk : 23 y/o captain signed for 6 more years, power forward unicorn, very high on-ice impact
Norris : paced for 43 goals at 22 y/o, Tkachuk best buddy, signed for 8 more years, already an excellent 2-way center
Stutzle : future franchise player, finished his 19-20 y/o season with 31 pts in 27 games, he is signed for 9 years, will be the team's best player all that time
Batherson : signed 5 more years for under 5.0; such a bargain that you just don't trade such a contract when you're trying to compete
Chabot : young veteran and leader, defense's general and only elite player since pretty much his 2nd season, signed 6 more years

DeBrincat : still 24 y/o, RFA at the end of the season, is needed for Stutzle to take the next step in development. Having possibly two 40 goal scorers could be a huge team strength

And the team's 3 TOP prospects :

Sanderson : stud in the making, 2 years on ELC left
Pinto : stud 2-way center in the making, 1 years on ELC left
Greig : 3 years on ELC left, Sens are also way too high on this guy to trade him

Then there's these 4 who would be available but won't be traded due to circumstances :

Giroux : retirement contract in his hometown, optics would be extremely bad if they trade him
Zub : by far their best RHD, if they trade him it creates a gigantic hole
Sogaard : no other "goalie of the future" in the system, would have to find a legit replacement if they trade him.
Tyler Boucher : no point trading him now as his value is way less than where they took him

In reality, it's the 5 main core guys who are "untouchable" and the top-3 prospects. The rest are circumstantial and DeBrincat would be a bad PR move due to getting him this summer. He has to play the season in Ottawa. Maybe he'll be traded if they can't agree on an extension

Again, nobody is 100% "untouchable" but it would take other "untouchable" players from other teams so that's why it doesn't happen.

Yes, there is a context to everything.

Heck, I didn't even name everybody but again, Jarventie would probably be available "at the right price". I think he would be in a Chychrun deal.

So basically Ottawa is done adding this season. That is fair. IF several of the young guys meet expectations they should be a playoff contender. 4th in the Atlantic is my prediction.
