Last peeke

Created by: JAKE6
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 25, 2022
Published: Sep. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Strong shutdown dmen with good skating and a nasty side. Hits over and over. Sacrifices his body to block shots. Could learn a lot from Brodie and be a great student.

I like sandin but he needs to play RD if he wants ice time and a bigger role, I also think he might be disgruntled enough to request a trade as dubas wont cave in.

If peeke is as good I think he is, this opens the window for us to contend, dubas has created a physical team with a bunch of defensively responsible players. We have the scoring, the two way game from our forwards and depth. If peeke is a cernak this easily makes us a contender. Our goalies just need to be decent and we should have a great season. Im à realistic leafs fan and I’ve been disappointed many many times but I really think this team has a chance to get us out the first round. ( if our goalies are good ) hopefully I’m right. This should be a fun year for us. Thanks for reading, I’m sooooooo glad hockey is back

  1. Peeke, Andrew
Additional Details:
I honestly think he’s a Cernak in the making. Apparently he’s even bigger and stronger than last year. Kid is a menace but doesn’t really fight and that’s ok with me ( 24 years old ) had 31 turnovers last year playing top pair, on a rebuilding team.
CBJ
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Niemelä, Topi
Additional Details:
Niemela is the real piece going back. Holl is just to patch their RHD hole while jiri and niemela get closer to being NHL ready
2.

  1. Villeneuve, William
Additional Details:
Do we have to add? If so how much

  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Anywhere. Retention can be done for cheap. Only 700K, jarnkrok is better and will easily fill his spot in the top6, cap casualty

If Bahl loses the 3LHD spot outright to Okhotiuk, it's the only way I see the Devils trading him for another prospect.

They really aren’t the same type of dmen him and Villeneuve. But with NJ possibly moving seversson depending on their season I could see them being interested in acquiring a skilled puck moving dmen, also I think bahl would love to come home

Leafs definitely could benefit from a player as you are describing Peeke to be. But a player like that (Luke Schenn type) will not cost a top prospect. Niemela is a top prospect.

Holl + Lesser Prospect for Peeke then. Or Holl + 3rd.

But the Leafs are high on Holl and most models view Holl quite highly.

You are also ignoring Nemec is the heir to Severson's spot.

It's not a matter of them being different positions but that Bahl may be the 3LHD for NJ.

Luke schenn is also a good comparison. But schenn isnt 24 years old with possibly 10 more solid years of hockey left

I was more referring to the different type of players they are, but yea if bahl has a roster spot this year he def doesn’t get traded. Esp not for Villeneuve who’s a few years away from the NHL

Devils would prefer a pick, a 3rd seems right value wise. To all the people saying he's the de facto 3LD, stop sleeping on Smith.

If you look at Peakes advance stats, they don't really point to a good defensive defenceman.

If a defensive defenceman has underlying numbers suggesting he's not good at defending. Perhaps that is worth thinking about. Especially when offering up a extremely good looking prospect in Niemela

i like the value but offensive D is the least of the Jackets needs. They need defensemen like Peeke, it's literally him and Gudbranson that play physically. Gavrikov is next closest bet, but even then he lacks sometimes in defensive coverage and has some noticeable turnovers. Werenski's defense is nothing past the realm of gap control and stick checking, only rarely throwing his body. He's still strong, but only uses it tactically, not as a threat. Boqvist and Bean, well, I'd rather not get into that. There's a reason for the small span in March this team led the metro season in goals and had the most given up. Top half of the league in goals for, but 1 of the 5 only teams to give up 300+ There is no pure shutdown D on this team, each of them has a bit of 2way or offensive majority style of play, and then there's gudbranson

Unfortunately for the leafs I doubt dubas would even consider this trade. If niemela ends up being a top pairing dmen he looks like an idiot for ever. And like you just said Columbus really needs him. That being said, I’m definitely a fan of his game and I hope they post more highlights of him on YouTube lol

Holl is a cap dump at this point jackets definitely decline. Peeke is better, younger, and cheaper. They can’t afford to get rid of one of their best defensive dmen that fits their timeline. Peeke has shown top 4 potential in his first full season last year

They just gave 4M with term to a equal, or worse dmen in gudbranson. Holl is not a cap dump.

If he's a Cernak in the making then Columbus sees that already and rejects this offer immediately.

Here's the thing with regard to Peeke proposals. Owing to the need we have for players of that type on the roster (as AndrewPawlack pointed out, we're critically short on those types), the answer is always reflexively "no". Your proposal has to be high value enough to make us subsequently look at it and genuinely reconsider that reflexive "no".
