I started out going by position need instead of just the player. It wouldn't be too insane for WPG to take a forward instead of McAvoy/Fox, even with hindsight, but I can see why you guys think differently.

Knowing what we know now, there are 32 NHL GMs that would take Matthews 1. All 32 would be taking either mcavoy or fox at 2.

Honestly I could see someone taking Fox (or maybe even McAvoy) first

Like I get Matthews is at worst a top 5 player, but Fox is a top 10 player in the NHL at probably the most overvalued position in the league

Theres just so many reasons that it’s a hard no on that.

First off, matthews has six dominant years. Fox has one. Maybe two if you want to be optimistic, but it’s one.

Matthews is definitely top two at a position (forward) that comprises 60% of the skaters on the ice. Fox is maybe top five at a position (D) that comprises 40% of the players on the ice.

I think Fox is the second best d man in this draft, and matthews is the second best forward in the league.
