Nah, we're good. We don't have any right d, and we are up to the rafters in lefties. Lybushkin isn't going anywhere for anything reasonable. And nobody is taking muzzin without some heavy incentive.

I do agree, the JT retention would be tough

curious -- would you trade him if someone was willing to take him and he was willing to go?

Why wouldn’t they do the trade? They get a second and robertsson

I mean, everyone should listen to an offer, regardless of who the player is.

I don't think there will be a deal that would make sense, simply because of his contract. Which honestly wouldn't be looking so bad if it weren't for the flat cap world.

You either move him to a bottom feeder team (which he won't waive for) and you likely have to attach something else to him because they know you need the cap space. Or, you move him to a contender and you'll have to retain. Dead cap space is a killer.

He's producing just fine for his contract right now.

Lol, how is that not a good trade for buffalo? Or for the wild (in a vacuum anyway, I doubt the cap works)

If leafs want to win now they will rely heavily on their captain. Tavares, Muzzin and Leafs say no to both trades.

Well, first of all, either you are trying to acquire something or you are trying to dump muzzin. Nobody is taking cap, it's probably gonna cost a second and Robertson to move muzzin. I don't see the Sabres selling lybushkin, he makes too much sense as a guy to free up power. Also don't see the Sabres taking on muzzin.

According to the smart people on this site, the Leafs have to lose every trade so badly that it would destroy their franchise for it to be fair. Like Marner is a cap dump that will cost major assets to move. Matthews scores too much, he's a distraction, he costs 3 firsts to move. But that isn't trolling.

Unfortunately, age and contracts do factor in to trades, so Minnesota would decline

Is Tavares an upgrade at center? Yeah. Is worth his AAV after retention? Yeah. Will he continue to be worth that reduced cap hit? Maybe. Does he fit the Wild's window at all? No.

Minnesota can't accept that

And, now this is just personal preference but the 1C spot is fine for right now with Hartman. He fit really well between 97 & 36. Rossi takes the other offensive center role and JEE is fantastic as shutdown center with a bit of a scoring touch. Actually, he's incredible in that slot and will continue to be.

18-14-17 was one of the very best 5v5 lines in hockey last year, and even before that.

It's an upgrade but it's completely unnecessary and makes the cap even more difficult to work around

It wouldn't beyond this season. Tavares at 75% would cost $3 million more than Eriksson Ek does. We have an extra $2 million in buyout penalties coming, Boldy needs a raise, and only Dumba and Gaudreau's contracts are coming off the books ($7.2 million combined). That doesn't account for any other RFAs either. We already have a ****ty cap situation, and adding Tavares just makes it worse. I would much rather have 7 more years of Eriksson Ek with the freedom to make other moves than 3 years of Tavares and an even worse cap crunch.
