Norris for Andersson and Lindholm

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2022
Published: Sep. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bear in mind Norris is signed for 8 years.

And Andersson and Lindholm are signed for 4 years and 2 years respectively.

If the Sens are high on one of their prospects being big difference makers in the top 6 and they want to keep DeBrincat over Norris, this replaces their 1C while their prospects gain experience and also adds a top RD.

Gives them a 1 year push with a ton of cap space at the deadline this year and space to sign Zub next year.

I don't mean any disrespect to either team, just thought the center depth in Ottawa and RD need was nicely matched with Calgary's overabundance of D and need for C certainty (2 years from now).

Lol generally in a 2 for 1 the team trading away the 1 player is sending the best player, not the 3rd best player

Calgary is absolutely in win-now mode after signing Kadri and Huberdeau (and soon Weegar) to those contracts. Slightly downgrading their 1C + losing a top 2 defenseman just to gain some term doesn't make sense for them as it significantly hurts their contention window.

I didn't attempt to add picks or prospects to even it out. I know Norris isn't as good as Lindholm yet, but he's 23 and signed long-term and just came off of a 0.82p/game season on the Senators. I was looking through different Calgary fans' posts and it looks like they're re-signing Weegar at 6 million and thought having 3 expensive RD wouldn't be an ideal use of their cap when Huberdeau's extension kicks in.

You are aware Calgary is a cup contender right? Their window is now. It will be years before Norris is at a similar level to Lindholm and that doesn't even being up the massive loss in Andersson.

Weegar will most likely play the left side this year like he's done the last 3 seasons.

Calgary has $3,249,167 in cap space including Huberdeau's raise next year. They would only need to clear, at most, 2 MM in cap space to resign Weegar, call up an ELC player and resign Vladar as a back up. It's hardly worth trading your 1st line center and top RD, and then still need to fill those roster spots because your AAV hasn't changed dramatically.

Norris is not going to be traded. He's part of the core and Tkachuk's best friend

Norris has 8 years left, basically all his prime.

Elias has 2 years left, Andersson has 4 years left. No guarantee they could re-sign them

Not very smart for a team that is trying to open a competitive window, not go on a 2 years run

I understand why the OP would like this to happen and it would be a steal short term but that would be very risky for them

While Calgary shouldn't make this deal, there seems to be some massive Norris underrating in this thread. Pretty standard for Norris though

Did you know that Norris had scored 47 goals in his last 91 games? That's the 12th highest G/GP in the whole NHL since March 15th 2021

https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?report=scoringpergame&reportType=game&dateFrom=2021-03-15&dateTo=2022-05-01&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,50&sort=goalsPerGame&page=0&pageSize=50

Lindholm is fantastic and has also scored a lot lately, he is just below 16th on that list

And Norris is not just a scorer, he's also already very good defensively :
