I love me some Jamie Benn, but he's 32, had a rough couple seasons and is owed (even with the retention) a lot of cash (not actually money but AAV) for the next 3 years.
I think Girard can fetch a better return. Younger players and futures to help the Avs fill in roster spots with cheaper options

dont disagree, but avs cant afford to move their best fwd prospect who can turn into a regular NHLer (who has an elite shot) for a rental they cant afford. Barbashev is great but cant be moving their best assets unless they know they can keep the dude

Avs can definitely do better for Girard and Compher, as Benn really only has value to the Stars. Even so, I don't think the Stars would ever trade Benn to a division rival unless he's in his last year cup hunting and the Stars are out of a playoff spot.
