Decent deal, term runs out when Bob's does so they should have money to resign him after this contract. Feels like they could have gotten him for slightly less though.

Nice deal for Knight, lot of money tied up in goalies for the next few years.

It’s fine in a vacuum, but with Bob’s $10-mil, it’s hard to swallow.

Terrible for a goalie who has proven even less than Oettinger

More than Oettinger ?
Ouch, I'm not quite sure that's a good deal if you consider that Bobrovsky's still there...

Knight shares agent with Demko, who signed 5 x $5 million after 59 starts and .913 sv%.

This is probably the discounted compromise. Great signing.

Having Yandle’s $1,241,667 dead cap hit and 14.5 aav on goalies is certainly one way to mange the cap

at least half of this contract is because of the hype surrounding this kid. 4.5 x 3 to play backup is a fleecing.

I like Spencer Knight but this seems like an extraordinarily player friendly deal compared to others right?

Good deal, Knight has a year to prove he's worth it before it kicks in and this deal expires when Bob's deal expires meaning goaltending won't be a problem for years. If i'm Zito, i'd much rather give Knight this then have him break out and then need to pay him bigger bucks/give him less term. Is it an overpayment in the now, sure but he should be worth it by year 2 of the extension

Spending 15 million dollars for average goaltending certainly is a choice.

This probably signals that Bob is gone at all cost next offseason.

I guess the only difference for now is Demko is getting every opportunity to make that contract look like a steal.

Is Knight going to get the same opportunity behind Bob? We'll see.

Even if he would break out, he would get the same, max 5,5m so this is a big risk for the team. In the best case scenario this will look an okay deal next summer...

FLA's cap situation, outside of this season, isn't actually as terrible as I initially thought.

14M is a lot to fork out for goaltenders, but they have just over 11M in cap space next year with only 4 (hopefully 5) contracts to give out.

Lundell being on his ELC for the next 2 years is a bit of a bonus for them.

Question is, do you buy him out and eat that awful dead money, or move everything not nailed to the ground in order to dump his salary?

And that’s *if* you can convince him to waive his NMC.

I would disagree, this deal ends when Bob's deal ends, i'd argue this means Bob stays until they both expire and then the Bob money can be partially transfered to Knight

Wack.
Why over 4mil? Over 2-3 mil was overpriced, he hasn't proven himself at all
Bob already is wildly overpaid, adding another goalie to the overpay list isn't helping

Bit of a gamble here for FLA as Knight (while having a lot of hype) hasn't shown he can be that guy yet.
