I think they can pass on eating 4x$5M of Bobrovsky - this year will be tough, as they probably have to suffer with a 21-22 man roster tops (barring injuries), but this summer they're going to see their buyout penalty drop from $6.575M to $1.241M, they're going to get rid of Hornqvist's $5.3M, and even if the cap only rises to $83.5M, that's still $11.6M worth of breathing room. Knight's extension eats up about $4M of that, sure, but that still leaves you around $7M to clean up the bottom pair (Gudas is a UFA and Carlsson will be and RFA) and bottom 6 (replacing Hornqvist, deciding what to do with Balcers/Colin White).

This year will be a letdown after last season, but if they can press through it they'll come out in a good spot next summer, without having to sacrifice a ton of picks. And if they still want to eat money on Bob, there'll be one less year on the menu.

Why is San Jose giving anything up for a goalie they don’t need? They have 6 already signed and they are giving up a 24 to take on Bob? Don’t think so

That Bob trade is missing Lundell, a ‘26 1st, and Zito’s first born child.

“Positive” is doing some heavy lifting there.

Bob is, if you want to be generous on his progress last year as a 33 year old, a starter on a President’s Trophy-level caliber team.

Considering his age and the general voodoo nature of most Gs in the league, I would not want to be playing Russian roulette (no pun intended) with that contract. Even with 50% retention.

You’re talking a $4.5M combined cap hit for one year, and $2.25M the year after that for two replacement level players, in exchange for Bob at a 4x$5M? For a team already dealing with the MEV and Couture contracts? The cost of cap in this market alone drives the value of that trade way up in favor of SJ.

Sweeten the pot or I’d pass. Hard.
