Depends on his play this year, he was fairly solid in the playoff run.

A 3rd and 6th?? For a guy who scores 40-50 points every year, is on a fantastic contract and who routinely outscores his opponents?? What a terrible take!

I am sure Holland was offering Barrie for a package like that to just about every team in the league, Barrie only puts up points on the PP when he gets secondary asset on goals, and Barrie is not good at defense and I personally would take the cap space over him in a heartbeat especially since Bouchard is already better them him and is only getting better

    A) this AGM is set in next summer
    B) Holland hasn't been trying to move Barrie
    C) Holland has no RHD that can take Barrie's spot
    D) everything you said about Barrie is either false or hyperbole
    E) offensive defensemen have more value than you think. See Klingberg, John

I think Samorukov plays for edmonton this year does well and they trade him at the deadline with a pick for a rental defensemen.

I can't see a world where niemeleinen isn't on the Oilers in 23-24.

I don't know if Derek Ryan is back. I think Noah Philp steals his spot.

I think Bourgault is in the top 6 on RW.

It seems to me like the choice is coming between puljujarvi and Yamamoto.

I think we'd be dumb to waive Derek Ryan.

I wouldn't say he's on a fantastic contract, 4.5mil for a 3rd pairing defenseman isn't ideal, especially with the tight cap space this year and the next. Bouchard provides the same needs as barrie, but at a much higher level, there are definitely bottom 4 dmen who are consistent in their own end at a much cheaper cap hit. Hollands cap management isn't the greatest.

Barrie's closest comp just got a $7M contract from Anaheim. He's on a fantastic contract.

And no, Bouchard can't do everything that Barrie can. The PP was markedly better with Barrie on it.

a powerplay is such a tiny portion of the game, Bouchard was 3rd in even strength points for dman under 23. Klingberg is also massively overrated and will more than likely get moved at the deadline with 50% retained. Besides the powerplay, Barrie isn't worth 4.5 mil.

Disagree. He's still a premier 5v5 scorer too - and he outscores at 5v5 too. His GF% Rel was positive in 8 of his last 9 seasons.

I never said he wasn't.. but Bouchard outscored him even strength, Bouchard is gonna get 5+ so why hold onto Barrie? I get your points and I was glad he was resigned, but with the cap situations we have it's really just not worth it. We have enough offense on our team as is. I'll keep my mouth shut until the regular season starts and we see how Barrie is under a full year of Woodcroft, I have no doubt he can improve defensively, but as it stands Bouchard is slowly pushing him out unfortunatley.
